Derrick Caracter verbally committed to Rick Pitino and the Louisville Cardinals Thursday afternoon at St. Patrick's High School.
"Coach Pitino is a good guy and a great coach," Caracter said. "And that's why I chose Louisville. He'll make me more of a well-rounded person and a basketball player."
Apparently, an unofficial visit to Louisville last weekend helped seal the deal for the Cardinals.
"My unofficial visit went great and I had a good chance to sit down and talk with Coach Pitino," Caracter said. "I've known for about a week that Louisville was my choice. I felt comfortable during my visit and that pretty much sealed the deal."
Caracter, who averaged 15 points and 11 rebounds as a junior, is the third prospect from the Class of 2006 to pick Louisville. The 6-9 power forward joins 6-2 Edgar Sosa and 6-3 Jerry Smith.
