Matt Jones reported this on his website...
(2) Larry Vaught of the Danville Advocate Messenger reported on another site that Tubby Smith may have been accosted by a fan outside of Rupp Arena. Apparently someone came up to him and grabbed his arm, before being taken away by local police. If so, a very bizarre and disturbing incident.
If this is true, i'm incredibly embarrassed for all UK fans that this would ever happen. In a perfect world, that moron would be put in a room locked with the key thrown away with TV's of nothing but either UK losing or Duke winning... I am beyond P'd off right now that this could possibly happen....
I don't care if we didn't win ONE game the WHOLE year... this is flat out ridiculous! If you take it that personally get a freakin life!!! I'm done ranting. Oh, and to that "fan"... GO TUBBY!

It it happened, it's classless. I don't have have issues with Tubby the man, I do with Tubby the coach and the direction of the program.

It sorta happened. It was on a premium board. So can't say much.

I think John blueblood pretty much summarized my opinion, I like Tubby the person, and am not satisfied with him as our coach. If this is true, IF, then that is a joke :tongue.

I can't really follow it all, but I think it's possiblesome incident happened but it remains to be seen whether it was a "fan".
I think you can still hold your head up high after Senior night.

i would think tubby would probably be untouchable after a game, security and all...no clue of knowing for sure...but i would think a high
profile coach like him would have at least a few security people around him...enough to keep this kind of bull crap from happening...but as we've seen this sort of idiocy happens on the high school level, just think how it COULD happen on the collegiate level...

Exactly.

Not me. Every team has its share of stupid fans. That may seem harsh, but it's true. Stuff like that goes beyond caring about basketball and a team. People like this need help.

This doesn't surprise me. We have some of the most down-right crazy fans I've ever seen.
Several people I know, UK "fans", have said something to me like "If I ever Met Tubby Smith I'd (insert whatever.)"
It's terrible, classlessand rediculous. It is, however, a college game played by a bunch of kids. People need to grow up.

It said someone grabbed his arm.
Couldn't it have been someone wanting an autograph?

Tubby has walked by me on occasions close enough that I could have grabbed his arm if I was crazy enough to do it. But there are usually buffers between us. People who could stop me or keep from doing anything once I grabbed his arm.( By the way, it wasn't me.):D I wouldn't grab his arm. I 'd probably pat him on his back and thank him for sticking with us nuts.

Regardless of the validity of the rumor someone asked Coach Rupp if Kentucky basketball was a religion and he replied "No, a sickness". We have a wacko element to our fanbase that needs find something else to obsess on.

As much hate that these crazies have generated around the program this incident is not surprizing at all.The emotion and unrealistic expectations for this program has generated idiots like this! The message boards are full of name calling, threats and other negative influences! The truth of the matter is that Tubby isn`t going anywhere soon and i look for more of these incidents!:thumbdown

Just what do you really know about this incident?
Seems you want to bash some people without knowing anything about it.
It could just have been someone wanting to tell Tubby how much he was appreciated.

Why would the actions of one person whether he be a fan or not make you ashamed to be part of a much larger group of persons who by and large are nice, intelligent and gentle people?
UK fans are some of the best people in the world. I've met fans of the program all over the world. Literally. China, Afghanistan, Egypt, Germany, Korea, in every State I have visited and I've visited most. I've not had a bad experience.
But now that one guy has made an *** of himself, you are ashamed to be associated with this awesome group of people.
That's pretty damn asinine.

I agree blueheretic. One fan does something fanatical and stupid and another poster blames all UK fans. That is a very stupid thing to do. It was like the Dixie Chicks claiming that they were speaking for all of the people of Texas when they said that they were ashamed that Bush was from Texas which is their home state.
