hey guys and gals. i got a call from my mom this morning that i needed to be at her apartment ASAP. i rush over there and she's holding a brand new PS3 she got from our neighbor for $400. he bought it for himself with a sony employee discount and decided he doesn't want it. i know kybuc owns one and i know some others do as well. my question is whether or not anyone is using an hdmi cable with it and if so will any hdmi cable work. i'm not paying $70 for a stinking cable when monoprice has them for $7.

Unfortunatley I've got my rigged up with component cables since my TV doesn't support 1080p. (my tv doesn't have HDMI either, 1st Gen HDTV)
Sorry I'm not much help on this one. I've not researched it since it didn't pertain to me.
You'll love the Bu-ray movies...............my 3 year plays the games mostly. I mainly watch movies in HD.

Im using HDMI for my DVD player and regular coaxial cable for my sat. channels and i can tell you this much, the picture for the DVDs (hdmi) is as clear of a picture i have ever seen and when i compare it to the coax. picture, theres just no comparison.
HDMI is the way to go ifpicture clarity is what you want.
70$ :shock:Wow, i paid $125 for mine. Definately worth the money i think.

Amazon's got em forfour to sixbucks. You don't need a monster cable, just hdmi.
Also, radio shack's got HDMI cables for about twenty to thirtybucks.
I've got ageneric hdmi cable and it works just fine.

Not a PS3 comment, but my 360 took a big dump last week. I had to ship it off to Microsoft. $139.90 to fix the thing.

Have you had it for over a year? The warrenty covers it for a full 12 months.
What was your problem? The dreaded three red lights of Doom?
Microsoft fed me some bull. I talked to like three different people and they all said the warranty had expired (I knew that it had expired, but I had thought it was just ONE month out, but they said it expired in November).
I got the three red lights. I could tell it was on its last legs, so I wasn't all that surprised.
What bothers me is that I had my Xbox for a long time and it screwed up and Microsoft fixed it for free. I spent $400 on this system and it's a shame that it can't last longer than a year and a half and I have to dish out $140.

LOL, i just read this and have finally found something the PS3 has over the 360. customer service!!!!!!!!!!! my PS3 died today after less than 10 hours of gameplay. i called sony and no questions asked i'll have a new PS3 in less than a week. they are also letting me keep my controller and sending a voucher for 3 game rentals from blockbuster. evidently my PS3 was in a batch that had defective fans. the PS3 will overheat in about 2 minutes and shut down.
to you guys that own one. when you turn yours on can you feel air immiediately exiting from the vents??? the rep said i should be able to but i never paid any attention before.
