Every year, high school football experiences a shortage of officials and this year is no different.
The Mid-Kentucky Officials Association is about 15-20 officials short, according to MKOA Treasurer Chad Laswell.
The MKOA is comprised mostly of officials from Nelson and Hardin counties and currently has about 55-60.
“We would like to have around 70 to 80,” Laswell said. Many officials are lost each year for various reasons. Many are in the military and are relocated or deployed. Civilian officials either retired or found themselves no longer able to officiate games.
