UK football player charged in bomb incident
STAFF, WIRE REPORTS
University of Kentucky football player Marcus Dion McClinton, 21, was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment early Friday after an incident at a local apartment complex that reportedly involved the use of household products to make crude bombs.

"We're aware of the situation, and Coach Brooks is currently evaluating the situation," said UK spokesman Tony Neely. "He will take the appropriate action once all the facts are known."

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound McClinton is listed No. 1 on UK's spring depth chart at free safety. The team opens spring practice on Wednesday.

This sounds strange. Obviously want more details.

From the LRC (state government):

508.060 Wanton endangerment in the first degree.
(1) A person is guilty of wanton endangerment in the first degree when, under
circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life, he
wantonly engages in conduct which creates a substantial danger of death or serious
physical injury to another person.
(2) Wanton endangerment in the first degree is a Class D felony.
Effective: January 1, 1975
History: Created 1974 Ky. Acts ch. 406, sec. 70, effective January 1, 1975.

Sounds like a very subjective thing.

This sounds unusual to me as well. I think it may be the first arrest of an athlete for a bomb that I have ever heard...

You mean other than the time Florida State QB Dan Kendra got arrested for building a bomb in his apartment, and having it accidentally go off?

Here's hopingthat McClinton's kitchen stove experimentwas justthe old6 parts saltpeter and4 parts sugar smokebomb-in-a-beer-can instead of an attempt to make homemade thermite . . .

He will get out of this, imho, with a suspended sentence and it will be erased with good behavior. I'm willing to bet, that it will all wash out as an experiment out of a bet or curiosity. You can call this a racist statement if you want, but it is a good thing that he doesn't have a muslim name, because the media would then be persecuting the young man over this issue.

The article doesn't say he was arrested. Was that from memory? I'm not saying Kendra wasn't arrested... just the article doesn't say he was.

Mea culpa, and all that.

I, too, am interested in hearing more facts about this one. From everything I've heard about Marcus McClinton, I don't THINK:)we're talking about a dangerous criminal here. I do suspect that we have certainly seen an ADULT's (Marcus is twenty-one) not behaving as a wise adult, and I KNOW that we have a displeased coach, as Coach Brooks has indefinitely suspended Marcus.

Back to what I've heard about Marcus,my female WCN friends who were so fortunate to attended the women's football clinic were most impressed with this young man, who came to the clinic and sang forthem, including a song about his lovefor his"momma."Okay, I'm immediatedly biased :lol:and even additionally so, as I LOVE his performance in the"Believe" video we see before games. :D

Most seriously, though, Coach Brooks, while seemingly most displeased as he talked with reporters about Marcus and other players, said that he wasat least thankful thathe was not talking about"more serious" issues.By the way, if he had not said that, I would notbe having any smiles orlaughter in my post.Too, I surely hope more facts don't take away those smiles (and I do not believe in making up my mind about anythingWITHOUT all those facts). At the very least I'mdisappointed in Marcus' lack of good judgement (and I suspect he is already paying for his mistake with feeling a lot of embarrassment, besides the suspension itself). Most of all,as R&B said, thankfully, no one was hurt.

Ten years ago you get to blow off half you face... no big deal.

Today you can't even try to build a bomb that probably doesn't work before you are in jail.

The terrorists won!

I hate this. I hope he hasn't done something that ruins his career in football and follows him the rest of his life. He seems like a good kid. I hope this goes away and he and the rest of the football team learned something.

I couldn't agree more. When I heard about this Saturday, I was praying it wasn't true.
