OVERVIEW:

WOW!!!!!!!! What a great game? I'm glad I watched this game. This was a huge win for the Lady Cats. You can call it a "signature" win for Mickie DeMoss and the Lady Cats. I wish I could had went to the game! The crowd was pumped up! GO LADY CATS!!!!!!!!!! I need to pay closer attention to when the Lady Cats play more on tv. Looks like I missed a few games. Anybody want to be my assistant and PM me or e-mail me in a day advance letting me know if the Lady Cats are going to be on? Would be very helpful to me! This is one of the few times, I actually won't be using the bad or the ugly section for this game. On with my game analysis...

THE GOOD:

1) Jenny Pfeiffer - Talking about your instant offense coming off the UK Lady Cats bench. She isn't shy putting up shots that's for sure. And she works for those shots as well as she runs all over the court to get open shots. She has a great jump shot that I love. In 26 minutes of playing time, she was 4 of 7 from the field including 1 of 2 from the three point line, and 7 of 7 from the line for 16 points with 3 rebounds, which two of them were offensive, and two turnovers. The REX-Factor Candidate Consideration

2) The Crowd - 13,689 was the final tally. A new record for attendence to see a UK Lady Cats play. What a great time too to be there to watch a historic streak get broken. The fans were loud and energized the team. Plus, they saved Mickie DeMoss $5,000 because she said she would pay for the fined if the crowd rushed the court. But the class act our fans our, they didn't rush the floor. Thus saving, Mickie and the program $5,000. Great job crowd!!!! The REX-Factor Candidate Consideration

3) Samantha Mahoney - She had a somewhat hard time against the great defensive guards of Tennessee. But of course, who doesn't. Tennessee is a really great defensive team. But all night she was taking it strong to the basket and cutting to the basket when she didn't have the ball. In 33 minutes of playing time, she was 3 of 10 from the field including 0 of 2 from the 3 pt line, and 6 of 6 from the line for 12 points with 5 rebounds, which 2 were offensive, 5 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, and 3 turnovers. The REX-Factor Candidate Consideration

4) Mickie DeMoss - She really did a great job coaching tonight! She really worked the sideline along with working the refs. She always seemed to have an answer for something. This was a very big win for her and this program. I feel that we might be a little ahead of the learning curve for this program to become a top tier contender in the SEC. Great Job Mickie! The REX-Factor Candidate Consideration

5) Carly Ormerod - This lady I feel is going to be a great player for the Lady Cats. She is controlling this offense great. She is only a freshmen to! Man, she did a great job penetrating all night long and then dishing it off to the right person. She did struggle at times but who does't against tough Tennessee guards? In 37 minutes of playing time, she was 4 of 9 from the field including 2 of 3 from three point land, and 1 of 3 from the line for 11 points with 1 rebound, 2 steals, and 5 turnovers.

6) Offense - The Lady Cats were running their offense to perfection if you asked me. Everytime down the court it seems like everybody made sure everybody touched the ball at least once especially in the first half as the team shot 53.8% from the field. In the second half, the Lady Vols turned up the defense but at the same time Lady Cats stayed aggressive as they attacked the rim over and over.

7) Defense - The Lady Vols weren't the only team tonight that could play defense. The Lady Cats can be aggressive and stingy as well. The Lady Cats held the Lady Vols to 39.3% shooting including 18.8% from 3 point line, and forced 13 turnovers.

8) Rebounds - Even though the Lady Cats lost this category by 1 rebound (33 to 32), they still did a great job staying with the much talented and taller UT inside people. For the defensive rebounding, UK won 21 to 18 where as UT won the offensive rebounding 15 to 11.

9) Points in the paint - Again, this showed how energized and motivated the team was. The points in the paint were tied for both teams at 30. So, UK as hustling and getting after it like they needed too!

10) Bench Points - The Lady Cat's Bench also came to play as well. The Lady Cat's bench totally dominated the Lady Vol's bench 37 to 12. So, the people coming off the bench was totally pysch and ready to play tonight as well.

11) Free Throws - The Lady Cats shot 21 of 28 from the line for 75% for the game. But in the second half, they were attacking the rim and getting to the line for their shots. In the second half alone the Lady Cats shot 14 of 21 from the line.

12) Streak - Say goodbye that the 20 year streak of never beating the Lady Vols. Let's start one of our own now! Great job ladies!!!!!

THE BAD and THE UGLY:

For this game, there really wasn't any good or ugly to be honest. There are some but they are also negated by other things. For example, you can say that the second half was ugly for the Lady Cats as they shot 7 of 22 from the field. But at the same time, the way that the Lady Cats were aggressive going to the rim and getting to the line negates the shooting. So, that's why there isn't going to be a bad or ugly section.

The REX-Factor Award:

No chance I'm going to give my award to one person for this type of game. To pull an upset like this, you have to play like a "team" and that's what the Lady Cats did. They played together and not only feed off the energy that the crowd was giving them but also from Mickie DeMoss. So, My The REX-Factor Award goes out to everybody from the Lady Cats to Mickie DeMoss to the Crowd. All three played an important part in getting this upset. Therefore, they all get my award.

Good Report, I have been following the cats for awhile and listening to their games on the radio. They have a good foundation and only need to continue recruiting well. The big surprise I believe, even for DeMoss, is the fan attendance. I believe she was only hoping for 6-7,000 average.

Thanks!!!! The fan support has always been there for the Lady Cats. I think the Lady Cats were consistently in the Top 10 for average attendance per game for a year. Does that make sense?
