SUSPENSIONS, INJURIES COULD LIMIT SCRIMMAGES
By Chip Cosby

Kentucky football coach Rich Brooks will spend this spring practice doing what he always does, looking for improvement in his veteran players and identifying which young players will be ready to step up and help the team in the fall.
But as the Wildcats prepare to open spring practice Wednesday, Brooks has some other things on his mind, mainly a rash of academic and off-the-field issues that have plagued his team this off-season.
Those issues, combined with a spate of injuries on the offensive line, will have the Cats a little short-handed for spring drills.
Brooks did have some good news as starting left tackle Garry Williams was reinstated yesterday after being suspended indefinitely for academics. But two other players suspended at the same time for the same reason, starting left guard Christian Johnson and middle linebacker Micah Johnson, are still on the inactive list, and yesterday Brooks announced that freshman defensive end Jamil Paris has also been suspended indefinitely for academics.
Two more Wildcats, starting free safety Marcus McClinton and backup offensive lineman Sefo Blaylock, have been suspended for a violation of team rules. McClinton was arrested Thursday night and charged with wanton endangerment for allegedly setting off homemade explosives.
