Michael Wilbon is on espn radio talking to Dan Patrick........
* says the UK job has more pressure than any NBA job.
* says what does Kentucky have that Florida don't
* Dan Patrick talks about football being #1, size of crowds, how Tubby did not recruit well being the reason the fans were upset.
* Willbon also says our expectations are stupid, says that UK fans dont watch national basketball to understand our expectations, says we only watch UK basketball
* says Donovan could turn Florida basketball into what Rupp had in his days.
* says he doesnt understand why any coach who can win where he is at would want to go to Kentucky.
* says we would boot Donovan for going 26-8. and not making a deep run...
* says UK should look for an NBA coach to come in
I am personally tired of all the "media head" talk, but figured I would mention it anyway. I usually like Willbon, but he is being a little over the top with this.
What needs to be done is Wilbon needs to get in touch with some radiohead on Kentucky sports to discuss this stuff. It seems to be so easy to bash UK and act like you know what you're talking about in the friendly confines of ESPN. I feel like any sound person could crush Wilbon in about five minutes if given the chance, because he couldn't be more wrong on practically everything he is saying.
Who is he kidding? Seriously? I am losing more and more respect for these ... idiots at ESPN who are simply not doing research but are just flapping their gums for the sake of flapping their gums.
Clearly Wilbon has lost his mind.

I'm surprised Patrick didn't call up Andy Katz and get a party line Kentucky-hater's call going. Patrick, Wilbon, Katz- our three biggest detractors. They should've just thrown us a wake with those clowns on together.
Maybe Digger could supply the flowers for this party. Vitale could hook up the Hooters' wings. Frashilla would clean up after.

Michael Wilborn's "knowledge" has exceeded his intelligence.
There is not ONE of those points that any member of the WCN, or any UK fan, could not refute with ease.

I hate to talk "race" but it's 100% clear to me that Wilbon is taking up for a black coach who he believes was forced out for no reason. Also, Wilbon probably believes all the racial stereotype he reads, written by Northeastern jouranlists- he probably saw "Glory Road" and believed everything. Was Wilbon around here when Tubby was named "Most Popular Kentuckian" by the CJ?
If Billy D. were black and had the resume, youth and potential he has now- he would still be our man!!!
I'm tired or the racial attacks by someone who probably hasn't stepped foot in the Commonwealth- rididulous!!

That statement caused Dan to ackwardly pause. Dan didn't say anything negative today actually said that Florida was a football school, and didnt have the fan support of UK.
But yeah I laughed out loud when he said that.

I heard Wilbon on that show today. In addition to the comments above, Wilbon said Kentucky fans only watch Kentucky and therefore know nothing about college basketball. As a result, our expectations are "stupid." He erroneously said that Kentucky has "run off" every coach we've had except Rupp.
He actually said we "ran off" Eddie Sutton after just a "couple of years." Of course the truth is that Kentucky has never fired a basketball coach. All of them after Rupp, including Tubby, resigned or retired. Sutton, of course, left under pressure, but what else was he going to do.
I can't believe a pundit if Willbon's stature is that ignorant and uninformed, so I have to believe that he has malice for the University of Kentucky and its fans.

Wilbon is clearly mad at Kentucky and is motivated to express his anger with negative remarks and generalizations.

We need some formal response.
Take an ad out in his hometown newspaperwith a well-crafted, intelligent response.

Wilbon is a local Wash Post guy who has hit the big time. He is unlikely motivated by race as much as he doesn't like THE elite schools he slams Notre Dame football in the same manner. NY Yankees also. He is a playa hater:nada:
