i've been reading a lot of posts on different boards. let me just say that we are going to look really goofy if billy stays @ UF or takes an NBA job. i mean our fans are actually going to UF boards and posting RUMORS. it's one thing for them to be on our boards. but, to subject them to this crap is wrong. i really don't like where this is headed. EVERYONE has thier sights set on billy. which means if he doesn't come here EVERYONE will be upset. which in turn, means the next coach will alway be judged next to billy d. everything is setting up to make our fans look really corny. i mean every time a national media members talks like billy d won't come to uk the fans respond by dissing his rep, saying his opinion doesn't matter, or he's not familiar with the UK program. but, then a "insider" posts a rumor and everyone says "that could be true". are we really that naive???? i hope i'm wrong. but, i got this wierd feeling that we are going to be disappointed. one thing my dad always taught me was to havea little humility and never get to big for my britches. i think that as a fan base we are doing just that. we're taking the words of people who claim to have sources and we're completely ignoring the people with credentials. it's like the fan base is collectively thumping thier chest before the game has even started. if any fanbase should be weary about that it would be uk. especially on the 15th anniversary of leattner's shot.
maybe i'm wrong. i hope to god that i am. but, i'm just not buying the billy d to uk as a done deal.

You may as well forget it. i just saw where one poster actually took the time to research billy's property. he noticed it had been appraised recently and posted it. it's getting out of control. i can honestly say that i'm starting to get embarassed a little bit. the fan base is collectively acting like this is our decision and no one will ever turn us down. in the long run maybe that will be best for uk fans. a little dose of humility and humble pie can't be that bad.

I sooo agree! In a way, we are making the "insane" Kentucky fan cliche look true. You know... we hate one coach so much we run him out of town. We love one coach so much we scare him away.

I agree, its gotten out of hand. With all the resteraunt, airplane and other crazy rumors coming out and people coming out of the woodwork with sources they claim to say its a done deal.
IMO, there is no way in heck that donovan has pursued this yet, maybe in his mind, but no further than that. Hes got a team that can win a second straight championship, he'd be a fool to blow that with such a distraction.

I agree with you. We are going to look like a bunch of dumb hillbilly'sif BD says thanks but no thanks. We are all going to run for the hills if that happens. I hope it doesn't since I do want BD here but to say all these outrageous things that people have been saying just doesn't look good on the Ky faithful.

We used to talk about national championships, but we gave up on that also. What is wrong with the fans wanting who they considered the best coach, no different than wanting the best recruits. All americans don't always prove out, but most coaches try their best to recruit them. What other program in the US has a chance to recruit Mr. D., who has more to offer, and what is wrong with fans known to be basketball savvy giving their opinions on who would be the best coach for the CATS?
If Mr. D reads any of the threads on any of the posts, he will have no doubt of whether or not he would be accepted in Bluegrass Country.
I hope MB is on the same page.

People are starting to think that they can get away with anyhting on these message boards and we all live happily ever after. The problem however is that the media can come through and select what they want from these boards and then put it out there as the mind set of our entire fan base.
Case in point the firecracker vidoe on youtube.
Some people have gone from supporting the Billy D to Uk move, to obsesive stalking really. If someone from the media were to dig this up, then Billy doesnt come here we are in for a huge embarassment. Althought it would do alot of people some good, it hurts the rest of us who know how to use the boards the proper way.
Too many people are using this as a free for all and not a way to intelligently discuss or observe this time in UK basketball.
This could get out of hand and really ugly. Sad part is it is really hard to control such things.
I Congratulate everyone here at WCN for keeping this place from getting crazy.:thumbup

I don't think anyone is questioning whether or not we CAN get him or SHOULD get him. The problem that some people are having is with all of the ignorant posts. (Ignorant is what I would call them, not saying anyone else said that.) All of this BS such as trying to track flights, properties, etc is getting more than ridiculous. We, as common fans, will know NOTHING until someone at UK or Donovan's camp wants us to know. And they won't let us know through waiters, postal workers, or anything else like that. There will be a formal announcement and press conference. I'll wait for that, thank you.

I'm right there with you on this one. Obviously there will always be a few bad apples amongst UK fans, but I wish they'd stop giving the national media fuel to continue portraying us all as irrational lunatics.

I am thinking no news is good news. BD had a chance more than once to say "I am not leaving Fl" but has not done so. I hope FL wins the NCAA Championship as they are representing the SEC. I am sure BD will consider all his options and do what is best for him and his family.

I think it's just fun to speculate and hope for bd, I thought most ppl felt the rumors where mostly bull, but it's like a kid waiting for santa, just fun to think of the possibilites...we're not shoving microphones in his face every chance we get, that's the press and quite frankly they should back off and let him coach.

Can I weigh in on this? The way I see it, posting rumors on a Florida board is only slightly less senseless thanposting them here. Sure, it makes for interesting discussion on occasion, but that's about it. To all the people that are coming in here saying they have reliable inside sources from the "inner circle", blah, blah, blah, I say, in the highly unlikely event your claim has the slightest bit of merit, the callousness of posting something that I assume was learned in confidence is unbelievable.
I have a very hard time believing that someone who is close enough to receive such information from the aforementioned inner circle would even be visiting fan forums in the first place, let alone divulging information. And, if you are careless enough to release "classified" information in here or any forum, I have a feeling you probably won't be close to that circle much longer.
LOL, name the source or don't expect to get any more respect than me or any of the other yayhoos that post in here!
Just my $0.02

We have a wide spectrum of fans for UK. And in any type of forum there is, be it sportsor politics, you're going to have the extreme right, extreme left and the supportive "we'll make the best of what we have" middle. Remember, a coach is only as good as his players, and the players are only as good as the coach. You can take a decent player and make him great with a coach's style or you can turn a great coach mediocre with great players who can't adapt. It's a team with everyone involved, including the coaches and fans, that makes them great.
"Support Your Local Sheriff" is a good movie that seems to fit what we could have here. Regardless of how wehave beenperceived, we are now showing that the fanatics are the minority on this board and we all would agree that we need to support our local sheriff!

I can't disagree with anything you've said, but I'll stand by my opinion/belief that anyone coming in here claiming to have -- and then divulging -- "inside" information is either full of crap or seriously violating someone's trust. Neither of which is an admirable trait IMHO...

If I was in Donovan's position, the crazy internet postings would sell me rather than be a deal breaker.
Why?

I agree.
People praise Dook for this. They've made themselves into a damn legend with the tenting that we invented, after all. Ask any basketball fan what team has the most dedicated fans and Dook will be in almost anyone's top 3. And even if we do call their venue "the toolbox" behind their backs, fact is recruits love the idea of going to play there.
It seems weird for me to see the same obsession be a positive for Dook and a negative for UK.

I doubt BD has spent one second on any UK or Florida message board. I wonder how insane the message boards at Bama, Notre Dame and Florida were when they were hiring football coaches. I bet they were worse. I suggest everyone sit back and let it unfold. Two things are very clear- 1. Florida has not announced Billy has signed an extension 2. BD has never said he is not interested in the UK position despite MANY opportunities to do just that- I think there is a reason for both of those things.

Well I am getting exhausted with all of this and Matt if you want to see Florida fans in droves on our boards just look over the Kentucky board on Rivals.com. They hang out there in large numbers debating why Billy D. will stay in Gainsville. I have spent a lot of time there lately and I have decided that if Billy D. comes to UK then he will come and if he doesn't there will be a good coach in Plan B. Frankly after reading all the hype about UK's new coach whoever it might be I am contented to just wait and see. I hope it is Billy D. but I am perfectly willing to go into the Plan B mode.
