Dick Vitale has publicly criticized Kentucky fan support and basketball over the past two weeks, and I am wondering how anyone feels about this. I think that if you are an announcer, you shouldnt have that leisure such as him and Billy Packer. They both need to get a job in the ACC, one with Duke (Vitale) and the other with UNC (Packer) and leave Kentucky Basketball alone.

A big FAT no to answer your question. Vitale without a doubt let's his emotions cloud his logic. Sometimes he's right but many times he's being a bit too dramatic about some things.

I don't think it would seriously disuade a coach from coming here but I do think it could hurt our recruiting. Where is his outrage over Heath ACTUALLY being run off at Arkansas?

Fortunately every time Vitale opens his pie hole, Jay Bilas is right there to counter-balance his opinion. Bilas has been extremely supportiveof UK, our fans, the prestige of the position, etc. Vitale is a caricature of himself and I doubt any coach takes him very seriously.

Nobody pays any attention to anything Vitale has to say. He's all noise and no substance and that's what he's paid to be.

I am pretty sure Donovan knows better than anyone about Vitale, especially after his "accidently" revealing that BD said Horford should be drafted ahead of Noah. He, and most coaches pay him no attention.

:thumbupI would like to think this true. Vitale is a great ambassador of the game, esp. with his work with Coaches vs. Cancer, but that is extent of my respect of him. He needs to lay off UK...

yes, when does it cross over from opinion to just down right slander?
UK fans are expectant for a mulititude of reasons...but geez, let it go...it's not going to change...the expectations are going to be there whether it's donovan or bobby knight or tommy lasorda in the coach's chair....Vitale needs to just get out of it and find a nice condo in florida or arizona and get the heck fire offa my TV

actually that's not completely true...he did pick us to win it all back around 2005 i think....not sure the date but it's been within the past 4 or 5 years...and i think he's had more good to say about Tubby than Kentucky...but that's probably over stating the obvious....but more or less you're pretty much right on with that statement...

I agree. I don't think most coaches pay much attention tosportswriters/announcers in general, but especially Dickie V. As I've said elsewhere, Vitale is slipping, has been for the past few years, and is desparately trying to hang on to the spotlight by talking loud and emotionally. Bilas, on the other hand, shows objectivity, insight, and intelligence. Vitale just keeps bubbling away, looking for conspiracies to fire innocent coaches by rioting mobs of unrealistic fans. He needs to retire.
