With all this talk about Donovan I think that all Wildcat Fans will be in for the suprise of thier lives when the new coach is announced. I would love to see the Donovan press conference announcing as the new head man, but if he is not then I think we will all be suprised by Mitch's selection.

a good or bad surprise

It will totally depend on the fan whether it will be good or bad. Whoever the selection is, if its not Donovan will be a good suprise and bad to others.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new guy ends up being Rick Barnes.

If it isn't Donovan, I can't imagine one candidate that will please everyone- but he will deserve everyone's support until he shows us what he's made of.

We will know where he is in about 3-4 years.

I think it comes down to recruiting strength if Donavon turns it down. Mitch knows this fanbase thrives off of blue-chip commitments. I think Barnes is a safe pick. If I were Mitch I would stay the course for Donavon, followed by Calipari, & Rick Barnes in that order. If none of those options are likely, then it gets into my Tier Three list, Gillespie, Wright, Few. I left off D'Antoni because I don't believe he would be a viable fit, for his interestsor for UK. Anybody past the top 4 is a bust for Barnhart!

You'd really rather have Barnes than Gillespie? Not me, not at all.

I think it may very well be a hire from off the radar screen for most UK fans. That is if Donovan turns the cats down.

I'm not really sold on Rick Barnes. He can recruit, you have to give him that. He does get the top notch players. He could really fool me too if he should be the guy if Donovan turns us down.

I would take Gillespie as the second pick in a heartbeat.

Same here. In fact, he and Donovan are 1a and 1b to me.

I must be missing something about Gillespie...

It's nothing personal BamaCat, but for those people who want Gillespie..why?

I really didn't know or have heard much about Gillespie till this yr.

He didn't recruit Acie Law and from what I saw A&M was a one man show. So being able to recruit is questionable at best?

Anyone want to enlighten me?

I'll still believe it's Donovan until it's officially otherwise, but if it turns out to be Barnes, I would have no problem with that at all.:thumbup:wildcatface

I agree with this completely. It doesn't matter who it is, SOMEONE (meaning several someones :?)is going to find fault in it and rip our AD and the administration apart for even DARING to hire this person.

Plus, even if it is Donovan, the first time we lose a game with him as coach or the 'Cats don't blow out an opponent by 35 points, he'll be raked across the coals.

I don't mean to sound silly, but I think we all know that's probably how it's going to play out to a greater or lesser degree.

This (http://www.aggieathletics.com/coaches.php?SID=MBB&CID=147) is a good read. His resume is impressive, and you'll notice many references to a "Top-__" recruiting class, whether as an assistant or a head coach.

He's going to win a championship for somebody someday. Soon.

Thanks for the info :thumbup

I've been skeptical about Gillespie but this helps a little. But hopefully it won't even come down to this.

Donovan is coming, "done deal" :D

You make a good point. It doesn't matter who it is, they will get hammered for some reason or another.
