On Mike and Mike this morning, Vitale said that he would be surprised in Donovan left Florida for the following reasons:

1) Billy and his wife helped start a private school that their son attends as a freshman

2) Billy's parents have moved to Gainesville

3) Billy's in-laws have moved to Gainesville

4) Billy's dad coaches their son's basketball team

5) Billy may feel loyality to stay with Florida if they have a comparable offer since they gave him his "big shot"

I was of the opinion that we had a 90%+ chance of getting Donovan, but now I really think it is almost 50/50. If Donovan was not coming, then he is still doing exactly what he should. Stay in the spotlight to up his star power for recruiting and endorsements, plus make sure Florida ponies up a comparable offer. Whether he stays of leaves, Donovan is in an absolutely no lose situation.

Whe I get to be retirement age, I hope to able to move to Florida too. I can see BD keeping a residence in Florida if he takes the Kentucky job. Dick Vitale is just banging the drum IMO. He's been preaching this same stuff since his ESPN pre game show on Friday evening. Sounds to me like old Dickie V is trying to convince Billy to stay at Florida.

1. Maybe he had to because the parochial schools in Gainesville leave a lot to be desired. Lexington has a great catholic school in place with a potent sports program. So Billy won't have to worry aboutstarting a schoolhere.

2. They can move to Lexington as well.

3. Same as #2.

4. The basketball season is over. Because of #2, his dad can move here and I'm sure will be welcomed to participate in Billy's son's basketball team next year.

5. Kentucky will give him an even bigger "shot."

So, I don't see the issue.

huh....from the title of this thread i would swear that someone is referring to Dicky V as a "relialble source." that's funny....i never knew nationally syndicated senile blowhards were considered "sources".....much less reliable.

Regardless of how you feel about Vitale (I'm finding him harder to tolerate every day), I'd be shocked if he had any actual information after his last goof involving Donovan.

Meaning no disrespect, but ALL of that has been reported in one form or another by numerous reliable sourcessince the first day BD's name was mentioned as a possible coach. Plus, if Dick Vitalehas added his two cents (the only reason he's singing BD and Florida's praises now is because Duke got eliminated early) that ought to tell you something.

Vitale is no more a reliable source than I am. Just like everyone else, he has his opinions and nothing more.

It'll be fun to watch Vitale and every other talking head gasbag kiss Donavan's *** if/when he takes the Kentucky job. On the other hand, if he doesn't, I'll throw a brick through my television listening to their arrogant blather.

We have to get he and his wife up here. We have to get him in the new practice-faciltiy and his new "state-of-the-art" office. We have to get his wife on the horse farms and make her a part of the World Equestrian Games (their daughter is huge with that). It's like a new carsalesmans says- the hardest part of the sale is getting them to test-drive it.

None of his family actually lives in Gainesville. They have houses and spend a few months a year there. His daid said not to read too much into them being there since 'we are all pretty mobile'. They all still have houses in the NE still.

This whole thing about Donovan having family at UF is so overblown. Every coach who ever changes jobs has roots at that job. Tubby had tons of things going on in Lexington including a very large foundation, it didn't seem to stop him from going to Minn. Pitino was from NY, coaching the Knicks, one of the great NBA jobs around and left. People change jobs all the time and it always means moving your family and leaving friends behind. Stupid argument IMO. It matters, but nearly as much as people are making out to be.

Vitale isn't the only one using these excuses for Donovan to stay in FL. John Clay has a front page article in the Lexington Herald Leader today that is almost word for word with what Vitale said. Clay is guessing that Billy stays put too.

Dickie should stick to making pizza commercials. And if he is tired of that gig, Letterman needs a relacement for Larry Bud Melman (may he RIP).

The Kentucky media had no choice but to write an article about Donovan staying... They've already spent the past week covering every rumor and angle that leads to him coming to UK, they're out of stories!

I worry about those things too but with the exception of the sister, they all have homes elsewhere. The parents of Billy and Christine live there a set amount of time during the year.

I'm not happy to hear this information from Dicky V. I'm not shooting the messenger though.

My best gut instinct tells me that Billy Donovan may indeed sit down with Kentucky tomorrow to talk. But I just don't feel that anything else any stronger is going to happen tomorrow.

If he wins tonight, he's king of the NCAA world. I'm not sure that bodes well for Kentucky. If he loses, maybe some of the fans will be really ticked off at him for allowing the UK talk to go on, and maybe, it pushes him over the top to come.

Just my thoughts though, no real fortune telling going on here. I'm like all of you all, dying to find out the answer!

Without question, Vitale is trying very hard to influence Donovan's decision via public pressure. He is doing this because it fits his agenda. Vitale does not want a UK team like the one that existed in the late '90s! Perhaps even more, Vitale would love to be able to say something along the lines of "You did the right thing Billy Baby when you listened to old Dicky V and stayed at Florida!" It's all about Vitale, at least in Dicky's mind.

Doesn't cut it with Donovan though. We wouldn't want him so badly if it did!

I, too, had the same reaction as I listened to Vitale this morning, Grub. :(No, I don't think Vitale will have anything to do with Donovan's decision. However, naturally, I do not like that he is seemingly wanting to influence Donovan to stay at Florida. Vitale most obviously does NOT want Donovan to come to UK. As I see it, Vitale cannot KNOW what is best for Donovan.

It is Coach Donovan's decision to make. I respect HIS right to make the decision.

I use to be a fan of his- but he has become a complete *** over this. It is personal with him for some reason. I hope when he comes back to Rupp next year he is roundly booed.
