Not only was the deal done before Tubby left, BUT Donovan actually coached the Cats for the last month of the season and in the NCAA tourney via a hidden camera and two-way radio. Tubby was okay with this arrangement, as he knew that he was headed to Minnesota. Tubby would receive orders from Donovan over the radio and then relate Donovan's words to the players (with the exception of Woo, who would only take his commands from Tubby, out of loyalty to his old coach).

If you watch the Kansas game closely, you can see where Donovan and Hobbs got into a fight with Tubby relaying Donovan's words to Hobbs. It was comical to see Tubby role his eyes while trying to convey the message.

So, while Billy D won the NCAA championship, he also was beaten in the second round.

Tubby has asked that those games be taken off of his official record.
