I posted two weeks ago that i thought we would have trouble in getting a high profile coach. The perception is out there that Tubby was forced out.I don`t think we will ever know the truth but these coaches stand up for each other. They look at Tubby leaving or pressured to leave and ask why? He won twenty odd games and made the tourney. Why would any big time coach come here and fight the increasing number of thousands of moronic fans on the internet blasting their every move and making fun of the coach`s family?Tubby on over 70 percent of his games here. That is about what the national average is.I think they see the totally unrealistic demands of coach here and they will say no. Gillespie might come because he has no wife therefore only he would would take the heat!Meanwhile Tubby is laughing up his sleeve! These coaches voted Tubby `coach of the year twice. They will take care of their own.

Yeah was worried about it as well. One reason Ibelievedposting comments about Tubby was counter productive. I still believe Mitch can get a good coach as long as it is done EXTREMELY quickly before it becomes the "in thing" to turn down the job. These things quickly become trends.

I got to say though, I am still flabbergasted that Mitch didnt have this locked up before he asked permission to talk to Billy. One can only hope Plan B is locked in.

Scratch, you were right.

BS. Donovan didn't pass up this job because of how Tubby was treated. If that was the case, he would have made sure that the public saw that he never even CONSIDERED it. Not to mention, if the fraternity is so loyal, nobody would take the job. This is still one of the premier coaching jobs for many, many reasons and we will get a great coach.

He declined interest within 12 hours, apparently, of Mitch requesting to talk to him. Doesn't sound, officially, like he considered it. That would tend to back your concern that he did just that.

Right now, no one has taken the job. We just need to see what happens next. One event proves nothing. Lets hope Mitch gets it right on the 2nd try. I dont want to see a third.

It is hard to evaluate the validity of your post because other than groundless rumors, nobody has a damn clue just WHAT Mitch Barnhart has been doing or WHO he has been talking to. Billy Donovan is NOT punishing us for running off Tubby Smith. He's got a good deal down at UF thathe built himself, and a young family deeply entrenched in his community. He is obviously the kind of guy that such things are important too. As for the rest of the "coaching fraternity" who knows, I see little evidence that Mitch has seriously courted any of them. I will say he is a very poor judge of charecter if he delayed a coaching search at UK based on only his hope that Donovan might come. If Donovan is to be believed, thats exactly what he has done. Very Poor judgement IMO if he delayed searching for anyone else without some indication from Donovan he wanted the job.

I wasn`t referring to Donavan as an example. He has too much invested in Gainesville to leave right now.His folks, her folks all live in the same gated community. If i had to guess what happened it was most likely his wife said ` no way`.We will know in the next two weeks if my theory is correct.

I am feeling the big let down. I hope we still get the right man yet. I believed too many "insiders" with their sure info.

I want and need UK Basketball to return to big time. I want teams to be fearful when they enter Rupp Arena to play our Cats. I want some high measure of confidence among the team members.

Some, even of those who post here, don't agree that UK fans deserve it, but I believe it in the depths of my heart, or what is left of it.
