Something I posted over at KSR, thought I'd quickly share here: I don't have time--or the mental energy--to really lay this out, but I think what we're seeing here is that established coaches, in this information age where everybody has a voice and an opinion, are "afraid" of big time programs. Calipari talked about this yesterday on Rome's show. Other programs have had similar problems--Alabama, for example. Thus assisting in the growth of the mid-major.
To an extent, there has always been a healthy fear of big-time programs (recall when C.M. was looking for a new HC, a lot of folks turned us down then, too). The problem here--or the big problem anyway--isn't winning expectations, it's who we're asking. We're asking the wrong people. The only coaching talent on earth isn't confined to BD, RB, BG, and TC.
