If true, Mitch is handling this search exactly like he should- ask BD first then move to the next best candidate. :thumbup

Question for recruiting gurus:

IF...we are able to hire Gillispie, what are the chances DeAndre Jordan can follow him? Any indications that he'd like to?

That'd be huge...

It's a good question, and yes, it is also huge. I remember watching his abcd performance online before he was really highly related, and being perplexed that he wasn't a top 10 recruit with everyone begging for him. He's big and VERY athletic, with a good frame and body control. Assuming he works hard and has no attitude problems, I think he's a future Top 10 pick.

I'm not sure he'd follow billy g to kentucky. he'd more than likely just head to UT. the more important question is would a&m release him???? word is that kansas state will not release any recruit that signed a LOI. i think that will change with some time. but, it is the school's decision. i know if my son is ever in a position to play college ball he is NEVER signing a LOI the kid gets screwed far too often.

Too cool......maybe this will shut up the Mitch bashers. Ya'll let the man do his job! I watched a video on Billy G and A&M yesterday, the link is posted in another thread. I was pretty impressed. Of course, I'm not qualified to make the decision and dont pretend to be. I'm not 100% convinced that Billy D was the right choice. Gillespie may be hungrier (sp?).

I was surfing the Texas A&M board earlier to see if there was any info on Gillespie. They seem to think Jordan will follow BG if he leaves......

Absolutely colonel- Mitch was asked to approach a coach who had just won back-to-back titles and could make the same money in Florida as he could here, no one in college can get Billy out of Gainesville and that's fine.

Gillispie would be a "solid" choice and want be NBA shopping as Billy might when the Heat job comes up next year or the year after.

Some additional info in Billy G:

A week after agreeing in principle to a contract extension to remain with the Aggies, Gillispie has emerged as the leading candidate at Kentucky. Late Thursday night, Texas A&M athletic director Bill Byrne granted Kentucky permission to talk with Gillispie about replacing Tubby Smith.

"Coach G is one of the top coaches in the country and we certainly don't want to lose him,'' Byrne said in a statement. "At the same time, I don't want to stand in the way of any member of my department who wants to explore any opportunity if he or she feels it's in their best interest.''

Gillispie, who was courted by Arkansas last week, was en route to Los Angeles Thursday night for this weekend's John Wooden Award ceremony and unavailable for comment.
