After fighting like cats and dogs over Tubby, can we all get on board if we hire one of the "hottest young coaches" in America?
I say yes, HIRE THE MAN!!

YES!!!!!!!!! HIRE BILLY GILLISPIE!!!!!!
He's potential as a coach is is almost impossible to describe. While his inexperience carries with it some risk, I think it's worth it to get this program back where it belongs.
Go Mitch, hire Gillispie!

I was more excited over him than I was over Billy Donovan. Partially because I kind of thought Gillespie was less of a pipe dream than was Donovan. Nevertheless, I'd be excited if Gillespie were our next coach.

He's not that young (47, I think).
But yeah, I'm definitely on board. He was my #1 choice when Tubby first left, then I changed my mind to Wright, then I thought Donovan was a real possibility, but now I'm back to Billy G.

let me admit that i know nothing about him, which is good, coz i don't already have pre-determined opp. of him; so he will have to make me hate or love him based on his own merits here....unlike crean or others.
i have read alot of good things about him.
seems to be workaholic/ ricky p or billy d-esque work ethic
big jump from a &m to u k tho.

If they contact him, he will come, so no more "________ says no thanks to UK" articles for ppl to write or report on.
He put off his extension signing in case we wanted him, didn't he?

Ive had Billy G in mind all along. If you look back to the day Tubby left I was the one saying that Billy D wouldnt leave Florida so I knew he was a long shot. Id love to have Gillespie. After the videos posted on here a few days ago we all know what hes about. And look what he did with Texas A&M! He can go from putting UofL out in the tourney to beatin em down every year! Bring on the right Billy for UK

I like what I see of Billy G, he helped recruit the Illinois players that went to the Final 4 and won at UTEP and a A&M had 0 wins in the Big 12 and now you see where they are now. According to the Aggies online site, his recruits, will follow Billy G.

Here'sBG's coaching resume' to date. A little thin, but if you look at what he's done and where he's done it, he looks to be solid.
UTEP 2002-2003 6-24 3-15
UTEP 2003-2004 24-8 13-5 NCAA First Round
Texas A&M 2004-2005 21-10 8-8 NIT Quarterfinals
Texas A&M 2005-2006 22-9 10-6 NCAA Second Round
Texas A&M 2006-2007 27-7 13-3 NCAA Sweet Sixteen
On the other hand, this is BD's resume'.
Marshall 1994-95 18-9 --
Marshall 1995-96 17-11 --
Florida 1996-97 13-17 --
Florida 1997-98 14-15 NIT First Round
Florida 1998-99 22-9 NCAA Sweet 16
Florida 1999-00 29-8 NCAA National Runner-Up
Florida 2000-01 24-7 NCAA Second Round
Florida 2001-02 22-9 NCAA First Round
Florida 2002-03 25-8 NCAA Second Round
Florida 2003-04 20-11 NCAA First Round
Florida 2004-05 24-8 NCAA Second Round
Florida 2005-06 33-6 NCAA National Champions
Florida 2006-07 35-5 NCAA National Champions
True, he has 2 National Titles. That certainly makes him a hot commodity, but guys if you look at his resume' without this group of players, he bowed out of a lot of tournaments in the early rounds as well. This years (and last years) team was a special group. Completely complimentary of each other in all aspects. He could coach another ten years and not get back to the final game. I don't think that will happen, but it's just to make the point that he's not the only coach out there that can restore our confidence in our program.
Here's another resume' that I think suits us very well. Yes, he's had some bad press concerning the NCAA Infractions committee, but that doesn't bother me very much.
UMass 1988-89 10-18 5-13 None
UMass1989-90 17-14 10-8 NIT First Round
UMass1990-91 20-13 10-8 NIT Fourth Place
UMass1991-92 30-5 13-3 NCAA Sweet 16
UMass1992-93 24-7 11-3 NCAA Second Round
UMass1993-94 28-7 14-2 NCAA Second Round
UMass1994-95 29-5 13-3 NCAA Elite 8
UMass1995-96 35-2 15-1 NCAA Final Four
Memphis2000-01 21-15 10-6 NIT Third Place
Memphis2001-02 27-9 12-4 NIT Champions
Memphis2002-03 23-7 13-3 NCAA First Round
Memphis2003-04 22-8 12-4 NCAA Second Round
Memphis2004-05 22-16 9-7 NIT Semifinals
Memphis2005-06 33-4 13-1 NCAA Elite 8
Memphis2006-07 33-4 16-0 NCAA Elite 8
I think the true mark of a great coach is one who can have solid success at more than 1 school. I think it is only a matter of time until Calipari takes Memphis to the final four.

He agreed but never signed the dotted line, because reportedly he was waiting on...you guess it...the Kentucky job.

I disagree. He's a good coach, and may be great, but he's not really that much more accomplished than Pelphrey or Ford, who are younger, have closer ties to the program, and who have much more upside, IMHO.
I wouldn't be pissed if they hire him (Creans or Izzo would), but I will be somewhat disappointed that we would be taking a chance, but not on one of our own!

I don't understand how anyone can fathom that Pelphrey or Ford can even be mentioned for the job.
Mind boggling.
