Ok, how long before Billy D has Florida in another championship run. He's losing all4 Juniors and Humphreys, basically 84% of his scoring. We were all wanting Billy D to come to Lexington and get Kentucky into contention, but how long will it take him to get Florida back there? Lets face it, it took him 9 years to get them to the first one.

1991-92 repeat champs

Next Final Four was in 1994, but he had Grant Hill and Antonio Lang as seniors.

After that it was 1999 with his most talented team ever that lost to UConn.

2001 was the next title.

7 or 9 depending upon your view, FF or title.

Either one. Final Four or Title. I'm going with 6 years to make it back to the Final Four, 10 maybe 11 to win it all again.

he'll be in the nba before he ever wins another championship. he did KY a favor by not jumping ship because he knew he had no intentions of staying here that long. I mean what else does the guy have to prove? he won two straight championships at a football school of all places...how do you improve on that? We needed a guy a that isn't "bigger" than the UK tradition and right now his name is bigger according to most media outlets...although we know different. I think he just sees himself as one happy and content fellow that has nothing left to prove. We need more than this and I believe we got it with Billy Clyde!!!!

I'm with some of the other posters. I don't know that he ever wins another. Winning one is VERY difficult, winning two is extremely difficult ( see Rick Pitino). Not taking anything away from the man, but history tells us that it is almost impossible to be a multi- championship coach. I also wouldn't be surprised to see him try his hand at the NBA, if the right job offer comes.

Great post. This is exactly my thoughts. I was a big Donovan supporter to getthe UK job, but in hindsight I think the better hire was made. Not getting Donovan might be the best thing that ever happened to the program. Or not. I guess we'll see soon enough.

It takes overwhelming talent and great coaching (or maybe astounding luck) to win a championship. I've argued before, and will continue to argue, that Billy's wins came, if not exclusively, almost entirely from having overwhelming talent (3 easy lottery picks) plus two great role players. No matter how good a recruiter you are, it takes some luck to get that, especially when you pull it from all over the recruiting ranks. It'll be some time before that happens again.

thank you...i supported the hiring of Donovan as well but have more recently come to see the light...or become blinded by my obsession and eternal optimism, if you would rather call it that.

Absolutely true. There are so many good to great teams, while there used to be 10 or so great and the rest so-so (alot like womens college basketball is now). Ohio State should have lost to Xavier, and I'll never forget when UofL was outplayed by L.a. Lafayette first round of their final 4 run. In 3 years i think B.D. will have a 1 or 2 seed team, but getting back to the final 4 requires some good fortune more than anything nowadays.

I doubt Billy D makes it back to the Final 4. He had a team with a special chemistry that will be hard to duplicate. Within 4 or 5 years, he'll try his hand at the pros, probably fail like his mentor Pitino, return to college coaching, and never regain his "magic"-- just like his buddy Pitino.

Alot of differnt opinion on this one. Some very good points that personally I didn't think of. I guess we'll just being watching Dononvan out of the corner of our eyes.

Or he could learn from his mentor.
