As if we already didn't know this was going to happen, but...

This is why I didn't want Rick Barnes...heck of a recruiter, but I'd like to keep a player for 2 - 3 years.

Good luck KD...you'll do great!

The guy looks like he is twelve. It is going to be wierd seeing him in an NBA uniform.

are you kidding me?? So you're telling me you would rather have a lesser talented player for 2-3 years than having Durant, one of the best collgee players ever, for one year?? Any coach that would pass up a Durant caliber player would be fired and trashed on every message board there is.

I don't want to speak for the poster, but I don't think any of us would not want a talent like Durant. In addition, I can relate to the poster in saying that I would love to have a RM, three year talent over a team full of one and dones. What does a team of 2-3 one and dones get you the next year? It is very rare that a freshman laden team can single handidly carry a team to a championship.

No, I'm not kidding, and don't call me Shirley...lol

Well it would be nice to have a player like that, but Barnes didn't do anything with him...That's why I didn't want BARNES. If you can land the all pro players but can't do anything with them, then what good are you doing for the school?. All he's doing is making himself look good by getting the best players.

To me it's wasting a scholarship.

Well lets see here:

Texas - got knocked out early

OSU - Got drubbed in Final Game...never was close...Florida never flinched

So that makes them 0 -2 this year...hmmm?...seems to me if they go pro, you didn't accomplish the ultimate goal by winning it huh?

I'd take a TEAM over them 2 any day...Superstars do not win championships. Maybe every now and then they do come through. But look at history:

Mashburn - nope

Walker - nope

Chapman - nope

Orlando Tucker - nope

Tim Duncan- nope

David Robinson - nope

Larry Bird - nope

Webber, Howard, Rose, Jackson, King - nope

Florida beat OSU handily because of TEAM play. If they had played Texas, it would have been worse...

The Walker I was referring to was Kenny "Sky" Walker

Jordan -- Yes

Antoine Walker -- Yes

Carmelo Anthony -- Yes

Earvin "Magic" Johnson -- Yes

Kareem Abdul Jabbar -- Yes

Bill Walton -- Yes

Bill Russel -- Yes

Isiah Thomas -- Yes

Pat Ewing -- Yes

Akeem Olajuwan -- Yes

Rip Hamilton -- Yes

You can pull out examples of both.

I could go on with this

I could go on with this

Jordan? - You can't lump him ina oneSuperstar team...he had Worthy and Sam Perkins too when they won it in 1982.

Antoine Walker - I was referring to Kenny "Sky" Walker which didn't win it

Hakeem Olajuwan - Didn't win it

Jerry West - Didn't win it

John Lucas - Didn't win it

*Again, I DIDN'T say it couldn't happen, just that it didn't happen often especially in this age of Basketball.

The only 2 that I can agree with is Carmelo and Rip...but they did have good supporting teammates. Ewing had a helluva supporting cast with Wingate, Williams and another guy that I can't think of his name, but he was bald.

I must have misread the site. I guess they won the MVP but not the title game. Chamberlain did that as well.

I knew which Walker you were referring to. That's why I put in my Walker. lol

You can go both ways with this.

I say pull in the big name recruits and surround him with solid guys who are four star and 3 to 4 year players. A good coach/recruiter can do this.

Yeah i agree...you can...good example of having a good supporting cast is Mashburn in '93...Travis Ford lit it up but after Mashburn graduated, he didn't do so well...Mash made EVERYBODY better...god I miss him :(

He was quoted in SI as saying he would have played for Pitino at UofL. At least that's what he said after Bassy signed with us. Doesn't really matter neither showed up.
