Do you think it is ethically okay for a coach to start text messaging a 16 year old High school Junior at midnight on a saturday night?

since not any kind of violation i absolutely do. you have to do whatever it takes to get a leg up in recruiting. i must say that it is refreshing to see a coach going all out. if this helps us land warren and there are no NCAA rules against it then i'm all for it.

A text message is different than a phonecall.
Text messages are like e-mails: they're picked up when the person turns on his phone. Assuming that the phone is off at midnight, then you'd think the kid would pick it up in the morning.
I'm not sure what "ethics" has to do with that situation. Even a phonecall at midnight is probably not an ethical choice -- not in the literal sense of that word. A dumb choice, yes, but unethical? Probably not.

The NCAA might not feel the same way...

glad this is brought up. the entire recruiting process is messed up. coaches begging 16 year olds to come play for them. adults that have jobs specifically related to stalking these same kids to try to get the scoop on where they might attend college. its all screwed up. tubby got bashed for not playing those games, and thus not getting those recruits...but the way he recruited is probably the way it should be done by all. bring them in, show them the campus, offer them a scholarship.

I just think even text messaging a kid at midnight is sending out all kinds of wrong messages. It seems like you are saying it is okay to be up at that time of night.
It may not be a NCAA vioaltion, it just isn't something I think coaches should be doing to "get ahead".

the bottom line is that if you don't do it your falling behind. these are the cards the coaches were dealt and billy g is playing them as well as possible.

did some wholesale editing and deleting in this thread - you all should know why.
Interesting topic though!
