Lucas said he plans on talking with his dad on Monday and deciding what the next step is. “We hope to let everybody know more of where we stand on Monday. I really want to go ahead and make a decision before too much longer so I hope to announce by next Friday.” As to the possibilities of playing with Patrick Patterson, “we both know where each other stands right now. I am going to be talking to him a lot this week about it and then we will see what happens. I would love to play with Pat and if that ends up happening, that will be great.”

There you go….could be over soon….

VERY interesting stuff in this blog....:thumbup

http://blog.kentuckysportsradio.com/

Sounds to me from reading the whole blog that Lucas is def. ready and it sounds like he's going to UK....but it sounds like he isn't waiting for Patrick but will be trying to persuade him to come with him over the next few days. At leats thats how I see it from this interview and his words.

What statement in that interview leads you to believe that Jai will be a wildcat?

I don't see it...I see UF has moved on even ground with us...

and I'm an optimist.

On a side note, I'm so sick of the whole Jai and PP recruitment...i've been following this for way to long now...I just want it to be over.

Reading the blog, it just sounds to me like he is more excited about UK and "Coach Cip" coming on board helps out. He doesn'treally have any "glowing" comments about Donovan or Florida, but he does say that he is close to Coach Cyprienas is his family. It doesn't sound like he saw anything at Florida that overtook him or changed his mind which I think has been leaning towards UK.

The following says a lot to me along with what I already posted:

Lucas said that after the visit, “it is probably right to say that Florida is in my top schools right now. I mean I took a visit, like I did with the other four so I guess I gotta put them in the same position.” He said that nothing has really changed for him at this point however and that he is going to “take the time this weekend in New York to get away from all this and figure out what I am going to do.”

Lucas said that he was familiar with Kentucky’s new assistant coach Glenn Cyprian. “I was glad to hear about that. Coach “Sip” is great people. I knew him from when he was with my brother and he has been texting me since he got hired there.”

He says he's "gotta" put Florida in the same position just because he tok the visit. Not that he definitely has too and was impressed or over-whelmed or anything.

I just get the feel from the whole blog basically that Jai is going to be a Cat. We'll see soon enough I guess.

I too am so tired of this recruitment of these 2 guys...but it may turn out worth waiting for.:thumbup;)

I agree with lilproUK98, he just doesn't seem very interested in Florida, I think he will try to convince Pat this weekend and then commit to UK later next week.

I agree that Jai didn't seem overjoyed with his Fla. visit. If he objectively looks at the guard situation there, he has to realize that UK offers more playing time for him.

Patterson is probably a Fla. lean. However, after Gillispie's in-home visit, Patterson seemed genuinely impressed. Hopefully, Jai can convince him that UK is the best place for the both of them. We need them both, but we need Patterson more than Jai.

If Jai comes and Patterson goes to Fla., I hope there is a good Juco player left that can fill our front court needs. I know that Patterson thinks he is making a good decision prolonging his commitment, but it is doing a disservice to the colleges who are holding schollies open just for him. He knows where he wants to play ball-- make the decision and let everyone move on!

I think Jai will end up @ UK and Patterson @ flordia. NO WAY patterson does the gator chomp against us when we played in the swamp and then decide he wants to go to UK

Do we know that he even watched that game? Halfway through December Patterson said he hadn't watched a single college game this year.

Yes we know he watched the game. He was at the game.

The way I read this is that he still doesn't have a clue of where he will end up. Sometimes it is too hard for kids to make decisions..much less big ones like this. Of course if it were me or my son..well, it wouldn't be difficult at all.:lol:

Patterson and Lucas are doing what is best for them by waiting, but it is a somewhat selfish act. The schools with open offers to them and especially other players (like a Pettigew) are penalized. If Lucas and/or Patterson commit somewhere, then the schools who had offers to them may make offers to other players.

I agree with most of the posters that it seems Lucas is a lean towards UK and Patterson is a lean toward Florida.

I don't really understand why Patterson is not a no brainer to UK. UK is the closest school to his home (parents could watch him play). UK is a traditional basketball power with lots of national exposure. He would most like start immediately. UK now has a coach that seems like he would be great to play for.

Parents can move and Florida is a very nice place to live. Florida is the national basketball power right now after winning the last two championships. PP would start for Florida immediately. Florida has a coach who is great to play for. Gainesville, Florida is a nicer place to spend four years than Lexington, Kentuckyis. Better weather and there's something about Florida sunshine that just puts you in a good mood.

Trying to determine where a recruit may end up by parsing their statements to bloggers and recruiting gurus is a fool's game. They may be saying their true intentions, they may be saying what they think the person they're talking to wants to hear, they may be deliberately misleading as to their true intentions, or they may just be saying whatever will get them off the phone the quickest.

I agree, this situation has gotten old. I thought that I read that PP wanted to make his decision soon so he could enjoy the rest of his senoir year.

I wouldn't go that far. Gainesville is warmer, but it is not much of a town IMO. It is in the middle of nowhere. I think Lexington is a much, much better city to live in personally. There are very nice parts of Florida that I might prefer, but Gainesville is not one of them. Plus, while nice in the winter it is brutal and completely miserable in the summer.

The waiting is actually good for UK. I believe they wanted to see who was going to be at the helm and needed a visit from the new staff.

You guys that are sick and want this to be over, get a friggin life LOL. Patience is a virtue..... As long as they pick UK I don't care how long the waiting is...

No need to "get a life." If your sick of it, take a step back. Coach G is putting it all back together.

Jai and PP will be great at UK. I hope they come.

One thing is certain, this stretch of recruits stringing UK along is over. Coach Gillispie is getting in early and often. It will now be a case of committ now or you won't have a slot. It's the way it should have been all along. Thank God the bad old days are over.

We have offered....

Legion
Sanchez
Hobson
Lucas
Patterson

That tells me that Gillispie is lining them up and taking the ones that want to be here. If I were Jai and Patterson, I would be worried at this point that Billy is offering other players. Whereas before, they KNEW that the UK offer was going to be there as long as they stayed undecided... this should help force their hands sooner than later if either of them want to play for Kentucky. I like it.

They are not even close. Ever lived in the deep south in the summer? It is awful. It will be 85 degrees and 98% humidity at 2am. It is hot in Lexington but no where near as hot as Gainesville. It is like comparing Lexington's winters to Buffalo. They are both cold, but not really all that similar.

You are exactly right. I was in Baton Rouge over a Memorial Day weekend and it was already sweltering. It was hot at 2 am.

Climate notwithstanding, Gainesville sucks. I'd take Lexington over Gainesville anyday. Of course if you want to play basketball in Gainesville, I understand they get as many as 12,000 fans at a game several times a year. So go to Florida and enjoy boys.

The real comparison is between coaches and programs, not cities. If climate ruled, places like Kansas, UConn, and Duke for that matter, wouldn't stand a chance.

Well said , our unwillingness in the past to set up any kind of backup plan just drove me crazy in years past. This coach seems to have the drive and the planning skills to have 2 and 3rd options set up in the very unpredictable world of recruiting. It is SO refreshing to see.

In regard to Jai Lucas' picking UK, I hope some of you guys are right. I just don't know. Billy Donovan visited Jai Tuesday, according to yesterday's CJ. Lucas commented that he understood why Florida had won two straight national championships after having spent time with Donovan. Folks, FWIW, that just didn't sound good to me. His comment surely did not make me feel better about our chances with Lucas. We'll see. Yes, I think Lucas would be a HUGE addition (no, not in size, of course) to this roster, and I am still keeping my fingers crossed.
