Hobson, a 6-foot-7 guard, said Tuesday he has two more official visits to take - New Mexico and Kentucky. He's already visited UNLV. Billy Gillespie, the new coach at Kentucky who recruited Hobson at Texas A&M, will likely host Hobson in Lexington next week, Hobson said.
Rivals.com ranks Hobson, who has made a soft verbal commitment to Pepperdine, as the 116th best player in the country.

"I'm a triple-double threat every time I get on the floor," Hobson said. "I can score any time I want, but I'm very unselfish. I like to pass the ball and get other people involved. I'm a winner. I know how to win games."

Not to mention a very humble guy. Is he a senior?

Man. When we hired Coach Gillispie I was excited. Especially after reading a few things about him. The buzz he and his staff have generated on the recruiting trail in just 2 weeks is unbelievable. I can't imagine what he is going to be able to do when he has plenty of time to do his recruiting. Usually this time of year basketball is the last thing on my mind, but right now I can't get enough of it. When was the last time UK was being considered by so many good recruits? And these areonlythe left overs of a class that most of whichhas already committed to other schools.

Sounds like the kid ispretty high on himself (not necessarily a bad thing). But I think our plate is pretty full right now trying to sift through Lucas, Patterson, Sanchez, Legion, Pettigrew, etc. I personally think Pettigrew would be a better choice over Hobson, plus he's a KY kid who wants to wear blue and white.

Not Coldstream here, but from the videos I have seen he looks to be a player in mold of Jasper only a little bigger and with a better shot. Jaspers videos had him hitting threes and jumpers so who really knows.

And this is the beauty of having Gillispie on the job now. About 3 weeks in and we almost have too many options. I like it!

Great point, RaleighCat. This is a wonderful problem to have.

His activity has been exciting. It also appears that he knows how to get word out there about what he is doing. As a fan, I like that.

But, I am ready for some commitments for next year's class. Patience on such things is very difficult. I cannot wait until we start to see commitments!!!

So far, the only difference I see amounts to getting more information about visits and interest from both UK and the players. Tubby's regime kept their recruiting very close to the vest. Heck, unless a parent or kid granted an interview, we knew next to nothing.

The LOI's will speak volumes. Once they get mailed that is.

Will it ever happen? :P

????
While my fingers are crossed for an overlooked '07 steal, we all know it's too late for the most part. We should be treating the next 1-3 years as a marathon, not a sprint. And hopefully the athletes and heady ball-handlers are right around the corner.

Plus who REALLY knows what we got in Harris, Coury and Williams besides Harris, Coury and Williams. You never can tell what develops over the summer. Nazr instantly comes to mind of course.

Legion Sighting? Darrington Hobson to New Mexico (http://blog.kentuckysportsradio.com/?p=2268)

by Matt Jones @ 1:19 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions (http://blog.kentuckysportsradio.com/?cat=1)

Darrington Hobson, the player everyone wanted but no one knew, committed to New Mexico today according to a New Mexico website. The former Pepperdine commit now gets to be a part of Lobo nation after Kentucky made a bit of contact (but no offer).
