(Disclaimer: This is about our returning players and our new coach. It is not about his predecessor and what might or might not have happened if he were still here, so please do not turn this into a "slam the former coach" thread!)

I know it's just conjecture but I was just wondering what everyone thought about this. You can vote for more than one if you like.

Comments?

I think it will be Mark Coury. He has played with Legion before, so knows how to run the floor with him. Plus Legion will look to pass to someone he knows, and knows where Coury will be on the court...

OK.. I voted for him cause I know, no one else will. ;)

GO CATS.... GO BILLY CLYDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crawford will get the most out of it. I am also glad that Porter will have a clean slate. He is an athlete.

Nobody stood around as much as Joe under the old system. Just stand and wave his hand like, "hit me I open" with a man right in front of him. He will, I think, be in constant motion and we will see his true athletic ability under the BCG system...or he'll be riding the pine I hope. I think he and Meeks are probably the best players on the floor this coming year.

But I also think everyone will be much improved this year!!

GO CATS!!

I hope its Perry Stevenson. Depending on our recruits for '07, he'll be the most crucial part of this team next year.

I agree with this.

Joe needs to learn to "move without the ball," as they say.

Tubby's system, because it relied so much on the point guard's "reads," often allowed people to stand around and watch while the other players did work.

I don't think Gillispie's offense will tolerate that sort of thing. If Joe gets in motion, then he could be a dangerous player.

Note: some of this, of course, is Joe's fault. Maybe most of it. The player has to make up his mind to work hard, and no offense in the world can do that for him.

I also believe it will be Joe Crawford.

He's going to have that senior pride and that fire in his eye.

I think Crawford and Bradley will want to avenge last season's disappointment. They will embrace Billy C.

More fire, passion, pride, intensity, will to win...

Its all on the horizon

Lets not over think here. I believe that Jodie Meeks could develop into a 12-15 point scorer next year.

IMO, Meeks would've done that under any coach next season. He's just that good of a player.

I'm going to go with Perry Stevenson. We saw glimpses last season of what he is capable of; I trust Gillispie to make that more of the norm.

Jodie Meeks could develop into a 12-15 point scorer next year if I were coaching.

That will have little to do with the coach or the system, in my opinion. Jodie's just a phenomenal talent. There are other players who, it appeared, did not thrive in Tubby's system because it appeared they weren't always content. Joe C. is one of them.

Jodie will definately average in double digits next year. At the end of the year, he was the most consistent guard on the team. I expect great things from him next year.

I say Jasper will benefit the most.......

Jasper. All he has to do is just shoot the ball more, and he will. I believe we will see more of the player that we saw in Maui.

I believe in Perry Stevenson and I hope he benefits the most among all of the other fine UK players. Jeanie and I had our friends, Dick Klitch and his wife Joan-who are each Miami graduates, at that game last season. Stevenson was awesome in blocking shots and playing around the basket with Morris. He appeared to disappear very quickly after that, and some said he was being lazy in practice.

He knows that Billy G will not let him play if he is lazy and that would prevent a very possible pro career and big money after college. I'm praying that Perry S gets with the program. I already have my blue fly swatter, named after the Big Blue Swatter.

Jasper has the most top end potential of any player on this team. I think Gillispie will get his head back in order and turn him into a UK great. Crawford and Stevenson are also great picks.

I didn't pick Meeks because he's good enough to develop himself. Unlike the former three, I don't think he really needs a coach's guidance to improve that much. I think he knows what he has to do and will go out and do it.

Some of the players will benefit from the style, but none of the players will receive anymore benefit from being coached by Coach Gill than they would have received under Tubby or any other very talented coach. Gillispie brings a lot to the table, including being a wonderful coach, but UK has never been without a wonderful coach.

If Joe ever intends to play a minute in the NBA, he'd better hope it's he.

SamKat, I hear you. In fact, I have posted that Perry Stevenson may the player who struggles most with Coach Gillispie's "boot camp" (if he has one this season). Having said that, I think such a "boot camp" would be GREAT for Stevenson. I LOVE Stevenson's potential.

Of course, Stevenson must REMAIN a Cat through any "boot camp," as I read that Acie Law and some other former A&M players ALMOST left A&M because of it. By the way, the Cats' Pause hosts said that they had heard that Perry Stevenson was the worst practice player Coach Smith had ever had. Thus, your comment about what some had said about Stevenson in practice may have been kind and generous. (Smiley face). Like you, I LOVED his performance that game, in particular, and HOPE that Gillispie can get his attention.

Ironically, the player I can see struggling next to Stevenson with any such boot camp is Joe Crawford, a player many have selected in this thread. I do believe those two players could thus benefit the most from Gillispie's presence as our new head coach, as they both might better reach their potential with such demands.

Meeks? Meeks will shine under any coach. I truly believe that.

i think that everyone will definetly be helped by billy clyde .. and that joe and ramel will b finely tuned for there senior year .. but who i look for to be helped the most is jasper .. cause he's got a lot of potential and all he needed was confidence .. he had shots but not the confidence to take them and would get frazzled.. i look for him to look like a different player

I agree that BCG is not a miracle worker and can't suddenly make everyone drastically better, but I do think there are players that will benifit from his approach as much as anything. Tubby used a lot of negative reinforcement from most accounts and several guys on the team clearly lost confidence last year. I think a different approach with these guys will go a long way. It is not that BCG will teach them drastically different, just a different approach. By the end of last year Jasper and to a lesser extent Crawford were clearly down on themselves. I am hoping that changes this year.

As for a system change, I think Stevenson and Jasper will benefit the most from this. I think we will be a much faster paced team which should play to their strengths.
No matter who the coach is/was both of these guys have a lot to work on this offseason. No coach, style or system can completely mask major flaws and they both had some pretty big holes in their game last year. The good news is they were FR and both have a ton of potential. I see big things from them both this year.

i think we see a full season of what joe c can do, not just 2 or 3 game spurts

I have to say that Jasper will benefit the most under Billy G. I think that we will see Jasper with an all new confidence level next year.

Meeks will benefit as well, he was already a star in the making but I think now that he will step it up a little to more to really please the new coach.

These are my two guys to really keep an eye on next year. Not taking away from our new guys coming in.

I actually think that Joe will benefit most. My feeling is that he'll bust lose and be a dynamic player next season.

I voted that Jasper would benefit the most due to many reasons previously mentioned. But honestly I would like to see Carter. I think he has the capability of giving us some decent scoring and rebounding. He has a good touch, but hopefully with a new coaches and offensive scheme, we'll see him develop confidence and more importantly develop into a productive big man.

with no disrespect intended (as a OTS supporter for a long time), I truly feel our players are well suited for more of a Motion O, with a faster pace in pushing the ball. That mixed w/ a tough Man-to-Man would really crank it up. We have so many athletes that seemed so under utilized the last couple of years. I wish them all the best w/ those helacious workouts, but "darn" I look forward to seeing us take the floor this year...so much more than in recent past years.

I hope you're right about Jasper, and you well may be. Too, I SO AGREE that Jasper has so much potential and especially needs confidence. I can certainly see Coach Gillispie instilling confidence in that young man.
