Billy Gillispie's Kentucky team will be tested early on as one of the four squads hosting regionals in the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic. The four regional champions will move on to Madison Square Garden on November 15-16 for the semifinals and finals. The other three regional hosts are Memphis, Connecticut and Oklahoma. Gillispie has been hitting the recruiting trails big time, trying to land Jai Lucas and Patrick Patterson. Also out there is Alex Legion, who originally committed to Michigan but switched gears when Tommy Amaker was let go in Ann Arbor. It would give Kentucky a big lift to add these talented players. Gillispie's club will have the likes of Joe Crawford and Jamal Bradley, plus a star in the making in Jamal Meeks. This kid has great athleticism and was tough down the stretch; I feel he will have a big, big year. He will be one of the better players in the SEC. Right now Gillispie is thinking more about Lucas and Patterson to get a coup in the recruiting world. He has a great product to sell and when kids lay eyes on that practice facility, they say WOW!

I would think that before you make something like this public, you would at least double check the spellings of names... He wasn't even in the ballpark.

I think someone needs to let Dickie V know that not everyone on UKs team is named Jamal.

While I don't agree with everything he says, Dickie V normally doesn't make silly mistakes like this. Although if we have a star in the making in Jamal Meeks I guess we should be pretty excited :-) !!!

He is losing his mind. The last time we had a Jamal was who Magloire and before him Mashburn.

Just a backhanded slap to the face IMO. Seriously for someone who only covers college b-ball, he really should know what he is talking about.

Gripping insight from the professor of college basketball, Mr. Jamal Vitale.

Maye Vitale thinks Jodie Meeks is going to be the next Jamal Mashburn....lets hope so
or maybe Vitale has what is called the JAMAL syndrome

"Gillispie's club will have the likes of Joe Crawford and Jamal Bradley, plus a star in the making in Jamal Meeks"

Who is Jamal Bradley and is he any relation to Ramel Bradley? Also who is Jamal Meeks? Vitale throwing the 'Jamal' name around pretty loosely if you ask me

A slip of the tongue would have been alright,we all have misspoken before. But if you are typing something for a website you think you would check and double check before it goes out. Doesn't ESPN have an editor for these sort of things. This just makes Dukie V and his staff look incompetent.

Maybe he just did it on his own. Kind of like we type things on here. I guess for all of those who have messed up on here, you are now incompetent.

This isn't that uncommon for Dukie V. I can remember watching a game during Chuck Hayes' freshman year. Chuck made a nice play and Vitale spouted "remember the name Carl Hayes, he's going to be special in Lexington, baby!".

No, making a mistake doesn't make one incompetent. Failing to double-check the names of the people you are writing about in a nation-wide column certainly is sloppy and unprofessional looking, though. It is one thing for people on this board to incorrectly spell every other word and use atrocious grammar. It is quite another thing for a highly paid professional to not do his homework. When you speak, it is easy to make a mistake. When you write, you have the opportunity to double-check what you have written, to use a spell-check facility or grammar-checker, and/or to have another human being read what you have written before you publish it. "Professional" sports writers should look and act professional. That is all we are saying. I will leave the discourse about the communication skills of many of our younger members for another day. As my kids tell me repetitively, what was important in the past is not important today, communication skills included. I disagree, but never win the argument....

LMAO.... true story. Back in the early 90's when I was a brand new Project Executive, I was given an assignment by the national Executive for IBM Service to round up some key people on short notice to be assigned to a project he was personally leading.

So, I sent out an email - under his signature - explaining the project and asking for senior management's help in getting "the right folks assigned to the project". Except I misspelled "folks" as "foolks". Spellcheck caught it and flagged it immediately. And, being lazy, I also had autocorrect turned on. So, it caught the error, flashed once, corrected it and went on. And when I hit "send" I sent out a note trying to get "the right fools assigned to the project" .

I got some great replies! "Thank you for your honesty and candor". "We have no more fools left, they have all gone into senior management". Etc., etc.

It was hilarious, and thankfully my boss had a great sense of humor. However I learned a great deal about trusting a spell checker!

Just wait until next season, when we start winning games again. Old Jamal Vitale will be right back on the UK bandwagon again. Fairweather Johnson.

Get back to basketball please. When I see our lineup next year I understand Vitale's excitement:
Jamal Bradley
Jamal Crawford
Jamal Stevenson
Jamal Meeks
Jamal Legion or Jamal Patterson or Jamal Lucas...

New coach Jamal Clyde Gillispie has a lot of options at his dispoal. Lay off Vitale, he knows his stuff.

Good to see we're all in good spirits again - despite what the dickster says. He's an idiot who's 1 stupid statement away from early retirement and a bed at the old folks home for his apparent alzheimers condition. I can only take the man in small doses. Can you imagine having to work with him?

Great thread - Dick must be losing it - Jamal Meeks was a nice PG for Bobby Knight back in the early 90's & Jamal Bradley played for South Carolina a few years back.

Whatever the case, I've never seen such a great lineup of PTJers.

We'll see a lot of new faces on the floor and on the sidelines next year, but as long as Jamal Keightley is still the equipment manager, it'll be Kentucky basketball to me.

I was going to try to add something intelligent to this thread, but I really have to go... my wife is wanting me to head out to the Super Jamal-Mart to pick up a few things and then hit JamalGreens for my little boys headache medication. Both places are open 24 hours a day you know. I would have just headed to jaMall because of the variety of stores available there, but they close at 9:00. Anyway, I will talk to you all jamalrow.

Signed,

Dick is a jerk and will get what is coming to him when he returns to Rupp. His comments about the UK coach search made it seem personal with him and he deserves everything he gets when he comes back to Lexington.

We dont get paid big money to cover sports though. Plus, Vitale only covers college basketball, that's it, one sport. If it were someone else that covers a variety of sports, I would understand, but he only covers the one.
