I thought you all would like these...

"I see no reason to end the basketball season in February just so some of these schools can start spring football practice early... Someday they are going to wake up and realize that basketball is here to stay." - Adolph Rupp on his Southeastern Conference brethren in 1934.

"I'd just as soon freeze to death." - Actress Ashley Judd relating a story of being offered a University North Carolina - Chapel Hill jacket on a chilly movie set. - Lexington Herald Leader, August 15, 1996.

"It's not wise to come to Kentucky and try to run them off their court. Not too many teams have ever done that." - Mississippi State Coach Babe McCarthy in 1962.

Another that sticks in my mind is Rick Majerus when he said something to the effect that Kentucky has 5 McDonald's All Americans, we have 5 guys that love McDonald's.

I cannot find the exact quote, but it was during the year of the Suffocats...
Something like, "They guard you from the bus, to the bathroom, to the concession stand"

Loved that quote

Good job, Blueneck!

Billy Gillispie has already had a bunch of quotes. After talking about playing hard offense and hard defense in Rupp he said something like : I want the other team to want to go home at half time.

"I am honored to be here. I am honored. I am, honored to be here." in the welcoming pep rally as if he just couldn't say it enough.

Acie Law, of Texas A & M last year, said that his coach- Billy G.- was an emotional guy. He showed a little bit of that at the pep rally.

Can we help but love the new guy in Blue? My son, who isn't a Kentucky fan, said we should get a Kentucky man who understands the progrqam, like Ohio State did with Jim tressel in football. Tressel is great for OSU football; however, Adolph was from Kansas and he made the Kerntucky tradition. Billy Clyde Gillispie is from Graford Texas where they love basketball, and he understands the Program at Kentucky. Billy G said he has read everything about Adolph Rupp, John Wooden, and Bobby Knight and he is honored to be here. I am obsessed with our new basketball coach at Kentucky. God bless Billy Clyde Gillispie and thanks God for bringing him to UK!

Nice post, SamKat. Too, I also tend to be "obsessed with our new basketball coach at Kentucky." I LOVE Coach Gillispie's emotion, passion, and enthusiasm (besides his obvious energy) and agree that we are going to be hearing a lot of neat Gillispie QUOTES about UK basketball.

Also, as you say, I don't see how we "can help but love the new guy in Blue." Too, as I see it, that is the case. We Wildcat fans ALREADY love this new coach! GO CATS! GO BILLY G!

Thanks poodoo,

I only wish Tom Leach or somebody would launch a weekly radio/TV show with Billy G.

It would be nice to try to keep up with the man, not his every move, but he press conference and pep rally were awesomely refreshing for UK fans. We have an absolute thirst for more info on the Wildcats!

Indeed-

Go Billy G!

Go Cats!
