Kentucky seniors Bobby Perry and Sheray Thomas only played for one coach at Kentucky, but they know it will be hard for their former teammates to adjust to playing for a new coach now that Tubby Smith is gone and Billy Gillispie is running the program.
“I really don’t know much about how the guys are doing. I have not met the new coach or anything myself. But it seems like that they are making the best of the situation they can. They are all upbeat and open minded,” Thomas said. “I couldn’t imagine having to learn to play for a new coach, especially at Kentucky (http://kentucky.scout.com/) with all the pressure you already have. It will be real difficult, but that is college basketball. There is always change. There were changes in my four years with people coming and leaving. So you have to deal with it, and I am confident these guys will. I am sure there will be s

It will probably be tough for a while. Especially since I have heard about the so called "boot camp" period before the season. But for the tough spots that they will have, I can only think this will be like a breath of fresh air for some of the guys.
I would think they will have an opportunity to do things they (for the lack of a better word) allowed to do before. Given some freedom to show their game and what they have the ability to do which wasnt showcaed before. The new freedom or new perspective will benefit them more than I think we realize.

Ah, Freedom. Imagine that.
Sometimes over the past few years, I thought I was watching "Live at the Appollo Theatre." One small mistake and bam....ON THE BENCH!

I honestly don't think it will be a big deal.
Basketball is a pretty simple game. If football is an equation, for example, then basketball is 2+2.
But that's one reason I love it.
There will be problems, of course. Tubby could just shouut something out in his practices -- "2X4s!" -- and all the upperclassmen would know exactly what he meant. That was just a week into the practice season. So Gillispie and his staff will have to put in their stuff, obviously, and that'll take some time.
But as far as strategy and concepts, you see most teams running the same stuff all over the country; defense is defense; the ball will be the same size. I think the adjustment period, if there is one, will be minimal.

I don't know how much tougher it will be, probably just different. And you know what they say, change is good. Also, it should be tough, these guys are playing for the UNIVERSITY of KENTUCKY!!!!

Yeah Sheray is makin it sound all dramatic. Of course he might feel like that because he ISNT playing for Gillispie.
I would hope it would be a fairly smooth transition.
The change in style will be good.
Make no mistake about it, this team will have TALENT on the floor next year.

Ironically, a statement with which I agree has been made on this thread, but I cannot say so because I said I was not going to make any more comments about our former coach whatsover, even in threads when he is the topic. I'll just say that I think I will enjoy the FREEDOM our players will be likely given.

Thanks for your response to my post, UKcat. I say "thanks" as your "laughter" had brought a big smile to my face (and one that had been much needed, actually).
My post itself, though, had been most sincerely written. I TRY to keep promises (AND to stay out of any arguments--and I tend to get into them both ways by being in the MIDDLE on most of the discussions, lol). I just HAD to point out, though, that I agree that our players will likely be given FREEDOM next season, something I will really enjoy! I'm glad you evidently caught my point and enjoyed my treading SO carefully in making that point! (smiley face).
