I have to admit I'm very impressed with how Gilespie has hit the recruiting trail
it makes one wonder if we had got Donavon instead would he or could he have put the effort that has been put in and will us UK fans be much better in the long run, even though we had our hearts set on Donavon. Guess we'll never know.

No way he could have put in "more" effort than Billy Clyde. I mean he has not stopped since he has gotten here. I seriously doubt Billy D would have put forth as much either. I wanted Billy D bad, but sometimes God greatest gift is an unanswered prayer.

You're right, golflender, we will never know. Having said that, as I previously posted on a thread, I don't think ANY recruiter COULD or WOULD put out the effort Coach Gillispie is putting out. The man loves basketball so much that he EVEN "loves" the recruiting. Too, as I had stated in that post, he is a SINGLE man, so he does not have a family that demands at least some of his time. So, logically, I do not think Coach Donovan could have put in as much effort. Certainly for the long-term future he cannot put in as much effort as Coach Gillispie. Gillispie says he "eats, breathes, and sleeps" basketball," and remember that Coach Gillispie became single again for he could not give enough time to either of his "loves" while a married man.
Gillispie is PERFECT for UK basketball. I really believe that. So it seems distinctly possible that Gillispie may WELL BE better for the program in the "long run," as you say. We'll never know. Too, it doesn't really matter, anyway. Coach Gillispie is OUR COACH, and I'm LOVING IT!

Really interesting point, golflender.
Obviously there's no way to know how Donovan would have done, but I just can't imagine him coming in to Lexington and working harder than Billy G. has. That man's a machine.

I don't think you'll out-work our man.

Depends. I think if we had Donovan we would already have Lucas and Patterson. So for this year, Billy the Kid would not have had to work as hard. he would have been done for 07 by now. For the future our Billy would have outworked Donovan and we would eventually end up in better shape.

Not sure how you came to that conclusion considering "Billy the Kid" doesn't have Patterson and Lucas at the time I post this, and they've both been considering Florida for months.

In fact, PP has said a few times that he would have been very disappointed in Billy D if he went to UK, because he promised him he would be at UF. With PP, that may have made him look elsewhere. We will never know.
