Lighthouse,

Calling upon your expertise again. I know a lot of people are saying that last night's game against UF was bad officiating. I'm yet to decide if it is or not but I'm really angry with the refs though. But mainly because I really felt that UF's picks/screens should had been consider moving picks/screens. By any chance you watch the game? If you did, then I would like you to comment on the picks/screens set by UF. There were several times, I thought UK players have avoided the picks/screens only to have a UF player either stick their hips out or their knee out after they see they aren't going to get the player picked/screened off right. To me, I think that should be consider moving screens/picks. So, my question is what does refs consider a moving pick/screen? I feel this is another call that has changed over the years.

First, here is the description of a screen. Rule 4, Section 31.

A screen is legal action by a player who, without causing contact, delays or prevents an opponent from reaching a desired position. In screening tactics, the screener is not required to face an particular direction at any time. Leaning into the path of an opponent or extending the hips into the path, even though the feet are stationary, is not considered to be a stationary position.

Then in Rule 10, Section 14, article d. A player who screens shall not: After assuming a legal screening position, move to maintain it, unless the screener moves in the same direction and path of the opponent.

A player after setting his feet, cannot extend his elbows, hips, or knees into the path. Neither can he move his feet unless he moves as described above.

In last nights game I think it was 3 times Rondo went down because of a screen. In all 3 plays, the Florida player was set and didn't move until after contact. It was Rondo's teammates who let him down by not calling out the screens.

I certainly don't mean to say there wern't moving screens or picks, because there were. Both teams were guilty, with Folrida getting by with more than we did.

The officiating was good last night in the first half, with the exception of the no-call on Crawford and a basket interference call on a Noah tip-in. But, the second half the officials were just plain bad. It would take a lot of space for me to point out everything I saw missed, so let's just leave it at BAD.

Thanks again. Agreed on Rondo's teammates failing to communicate there is a pick or screen coming. Thanks for the clarification!
