The NCAA allows 13 scholarship players. Here is Uk's roster next season:

Stevenson FR
Meeks FR
Jasper Fr
Porter FR
Alleyne SR
Bradley JR
Carter SO
Crawford JR
Morris JR
Orbzut SR
perry SR
Rondo JR
Sims SR
Thomas SR
Williams SO

By my count, that is 15 players. I hear Rondo's name mentioned quite a bit for the NBA. Is Williams a walk-on or will someone else be leaving?

I could see Rondo in the pros. I could see Williams taking one for the team and walking on for a year or something.

Phil Jones, a 6' 11" 260 lb. center, has apparently said UK is in the lead for him. Mr. Jones would be another freshman for next season. That makes it 3 schollies over the limit if he accepts, and 5 centers on one team.

What's the inside scoop? Is someone going pro again or is someone going to leave?

the one thing that would bother me if I were a uk fan is my starting center is a free agent...He can leave anytime a team wants him, ifTubbster takes another player it will be to protect againstsuch a move. Rondo is gone after this year.

Tubby has gotta know something. My guess is either Rondo or Morris....or possibly both are gone after the season. Allenye would be my next guess.

if i had to guess, i would say rondo goes pro theres 1. allenye is dismissed or transfers theres 2, and williams or perry takes advantage of the new rule allowing players to go on academic scholly. theres the 3rd. again, that's just a guess no inside information here

Wow, Rick and Uofhell, glad you're already obsessing over how you might try and beat us next season! Don't stress, it always works out! Tubby has it all under control!:P

Obsessing? I don't think so. If Rondo does go pro, it won't even be much of a game. :? You have worse problems scoring then we do, without Rondo and Sparkie who is going to put the ball in the basket for you?

I personally think Rondo hurts us as much as he helps us offensively. Scouts' two biggest concerns about RR: jump shot and over-dribbling. He loves pounding the ball into the floor. That creates standing around on O. Watch him sometime and tell me you disagree.

T.SmithNew Freshman Longshot Possibility

Tubby is still going after a couple 06 players. If we addSmith and Jones, four of the five possibilities outlined above need to happen. I'd say the strongest possibility is for Shaq to be gone, followed by the academic scholarshiips then Rondo to the NBA. Some have talked about Porter going to prep school but only of Rondo stays.

A more likely scenario is for Paul Jones to become a Cat so we would need to make room for three.

BTW: I've only paid slight attention to the new NCAA rule concerning aceademic scholarships for existing players but I've heard others report about the two above as being possibilities.

Thanks ED,

I keep reading Jones is a lock for UK. He sounds like a real "banger". That should help your interior game having a big man that has some weight on him.

Alleyne is a Junior now right? I can't see him transferring to a Div II after 3 years at UK.

I could see Orbzut playing pro ball in Europe if he is on pace to graduate early.

I remember skimming through the new academic scholarship ruling, but I did not read it closely either.

It may not be by choice.

Everyone is a free agent. Anyone can quit school and go pro.

Agreed, In most of life's endeavors you need to be dependable, If coach can onlyrelay upon him to be available sporadically it may be time to pull the scholarship.

The reason I mentioned Div. II for Shaq was he would surely find a school that he could maximize his playing time and he would not have to sit out. Maybeafter a year of starting for whoever a pro team would take a flyer on him.

Tubby is gonna clean house at the end of the season - get rid of the wrong pieces, add some new ones.

I agree with notfrank and not because I'm a UofL fan. I just don't think Rondo has an NBA type game yet. He's an inconsistant shooter, at best, and he plays out of control at times. Now, I'm not saying he isnt a good player, because he is, but I don't see him as a first rounder.

Shag is gone imo. I think Tubby has officially given up on him.

I'll agree with this. However, Rondo sure wouldn't be the worst player in the draft. First round after this year, though? Doubtful. I hope that he at least sticks around for one more year to develop a more consistent game and up his stock in the NBA.

I agree too...............rondo isn't very smart if he thinks he is ready for the NBA....Rondo needs to take a page out of Prince's book and do what he did..........and eventually he will make the big bucks too

I think Rondo is almost a guaranteed first rounder now and maybe even a lottery pick. If he develops a consistent outside shot I know he is a lottery pick.

As of right now he is a lottery pick. Remember the NBA drafts on potential. He has a game better suited for the pros than college. Atlanta is in love with him.
