I know they came on hard at the end for JL, but does anyone know if UF had a contingency plan in case JL goes elsewhere?

that's a good question but I think they are ok without Lucas, they just would really like to have him. They have Hodge and Calathes who both are more than capable of running the point if they have to. I think Lucas solidifies their guards but in no way is he a must have for Florida.

Is he a must have for ether UK or UF?

I guess part of my question was directly correlated with the Maggard rumor. I wanted to know if there was possibly another PG that could have commited besides JL.

Frorida has already signed an outstanding point guard in Nick Calathes. If Jai Lucas goes to Florida, he is looking at a lot of time on the bench IMHO. I would project Calathes to be Florida's starter at that position whether Lucas goes there or not. My impression of Calathes from watching him in the McDonalds game is that he's the best passer I've ever seen at the high school level. Rise magazine ranked him the 13th best player overall, and the 4th best point guard. Lucas was ranked 48th overall and the 11th best point guard. Rivels ranked Calathes 11th overall and 3rd among point guards, while judging Lucas to be 42nd overall and the 6th best PG. I do feel Lucas' stock rose some by the end of the season, but I still think Calathes is better. The only selling point I could think of for Donavan to use to Lucas,is that Calathes can play the 2 or 3 also.

I agree with you assessment. One other thing to add is that you then encroach on Walter Hodge minutes... I think that things could be somewhat sticky if he goes... but you know that Billy D is promising him the moon.

I'm sure Billy G is also making some promises. I think Calathes could hurt Florida's chances, but then we have Meeks, Crawford, Jasper, Porter, Bradley, that Florida fans are probably pointing out as well.

Of all of those that you mention, Jasper would be the only true contender at his position, however.

I agree but you know that's not the way Florida thinks of it. I'm sure they would say that Bradley, Jasper, and Porter are all PGs and that they could move Calathes to the 2G and make room for Jai!!

UF can make all of the assumptions they would like. Bradley clearly demonstrated last year that he is a back-up option at PG at best. In addition, I don't think their fans are even silly enough to make any claims about Porter competing for playing time with JL.

I don't think Florida moves Calathes to the 2 spot because of Walter Hodge. Calathes to the 3 might be a better option for Florida. I think the only frontcourt players Florida has returning that logged a lot of minutes last season are Speights (center) and Werner (who at 235 is probably better suited to play power forward.)
