6'9 220 PF just decommited from Va Tech. Are we interested? Possible backup plan to Patterson/Sanchez? Surely we won't go 0 for 2 but it could happen...
Anyone have any info?

This is what VT said about him when he was signed........(sounds interesting)
Gilchrist, a 6-9, 220 pound forward from Clinton, Md., was a second team All-Prince Georges County selection by the PG Gazette as a junior at Friendly High School in Fort Washington, Md. He averaged 16 points and 12 rebounds per game as a junior. He will play for Progressive Christian Academy in Camp Springs, Md., as a senior. He is ranked #110 overall and as the #31 power forward by Rivals.com.
"We are extremely excited to have Augustus Gilchrist join our 06-07 recruiting class," head coach Seth Greenberg said. "He is one of the premier forwards in America. His improvement over the last two years has been a pleasure to watch. He has the size, strength and quickness that you need at the forward position to be an elite player in the Atlantic Coast Conference."

His original list of schools were mainly Big East schools. He'll probably end up close to home at Georgetown or Maryland.

Just realized why he asked to be released, that is unfortunate:
"Due to the tragic and historic events of April 16 ... Augustus Gilchrist will respectfully request to be released from his national letter of intent," Progressive Christian coach Van Whitfield said in an e-mail Friday.
