View Full Version : Looking on the bright side
This is not sour grapes as I would have taken any of the recruits we missed out on, but I am not all that upset about it. If we get Patterson, I will not even care at all. If we miss him it still helps even out the scholarships, which are really out of wack right now. We have 6 SO. and at least 3 FR. If we sign Patterson, that is 10 scholarships tied up in the SO and FR class, leaving us 3 for 08 and none for 09. It would help to have 4 for 08 allowing us to spread things out a bit. Of course, it would be even better to go ahead and get Patterson this year and worry about scholarships later, but it is one benifit to an otherwise sad occurence.

I like your attitude. It is much better than the "Black Monday" approach. While it would be very beneficial to get Patterson tomorrow, it isn't the end of the world, as some would see it.

I thought we really could have used Hamga.
Lucas would have been a nice addition, but he surely wasn't a need. I always wanted him only because he would have (a) given some serious competition to Jasper which could have possibly improved Jasper's game and (b) perhaps pulled Patterson to UK with him.
But losing Jai Lucas is certainly not disastrous. I'm one who really likes Michael Porter's game. I think he'll be an adequate back-up next season.
Sanchez is a project.
So it's certainly not a Black Monday. Maybe just a Grayish Monday.
And Monday will be forgotten if Patterson signs on.

I thought so too, Will Lavender. But the only thing I had to go by was the words of our neighborhood recruiting gurus. Perhaps Hamga received a bit of the "Marshall Moses treatment" and Gillispie knew that.
It's really the only consolation I can take from this loss.
I really, really hope we get Patterson.

Absolutely!
I was never sold on Hamga. The footage I've seen just hasn't impressed me. As far as Sanchez, I never could find any videos, so I really didn't know much about him. He would definitely be a risk because of his knees, but I don't know how much of a project he would have been. I know CBC had been recruiting him at A&M, but after his injury, he might not have had as much interest.
I think CBC has interests elsewhere for the future of KY Basketball. We don't need to just keep adding players for the sake of having all the scholarships filled. Those types of players are those that OTS recruited, which is what we don't need right now.

I think in the long run, this is the best thing for UK. Instead of going after every player on the block, go after some in the '08 and '09 classes. If we take a beating next then so be it.

Good post! We should be taking this whole situation with a grain of salt. Not getting the 3 will not be the end of us. Granted, it sucks, but we're probably better off without them. I wasn't digging all the drama anyway and will be glad when tomorrow passes, regardless of the outcome. BG has done a great job of recruiting in his short tenure and I can't say a bad thing about him or any of the recruits we didn't get.

I think come next November, we are all going to be jumping for joy. I think Coach Billy C will land a loaded early signing period class.
