Who do you all think is the best basketball player to ever come out of the state of Kentucky? I will go ahead and say Wes Unseld. Out of Louisville and my Seneca High School. Too bad he made the wrong college choice. But had a wonderful career.

Wes was a good one....Allan Houston ,one of prettiest jump shot I have ever seen, out of Ballard High School in Louisville is the person that comes to mind for me.

Griffith, promised a championship and delivered. I don't remember anyone ever doing that in the state.

Rex was my favorite, but have to go with Griff and Unseld. King Kelly Coleman was pretty **** good before the day. At least that's what my dad told me.

You said Wes Unseld, not that I'm saying he wasn't good, but if Griff was 1800's, Unseld was 1700's.

And tell me anyone else who did what griff did.

Unseld is in NBAs Hall of Fame. Not too shabby if ya ask me. Led Seneca to back to back titles in the early 60s as well. Did I mention hes in the Hall of Fame?

I'd have to go with Darrell Griffith. As far as UK players, I was a big fan of Jack Givens. I think he scored like 41 points in the '78 Championship game.

I like Darrell also. I have the rep the Male High School Dawgs!!!!

For someone with the best NBA career I guess I would have to go with Allan Houston, Derek Anderson, or Wes Unseld.

Best I've ever seen was probably Houston.

And I'll tell you what: if Mel Turpin could have controlled his weight, he might rank right up there with the best of them.

Unseld won an NBA championship in '78. Mr. Keven Grevey (my first wildcat crush:icon_redface: ) was on the same team with him. '78 was a very good year!

What about Wah Wah Jones?? I think Unseld is probably the best basketball player but I think Jones has to be in the top three. He helped win back to back championship in 48, 49. He was also the ninth overall pick in the NBA draft. He is the only person to have his jersey retired in both basketball and football.

I sound like his agent lol, but I did go to the same high school.

edit- Not at the same time....... many, many years later lol

Thanks for mentioning my old buddy, Mel. He is overlooked a lot.

What about Ralph Beard? He was NCAA champion and an Olympic champion. Hard to beat that. Someone else could probably speak on his pro career.

I'm kind of surprised Dave Cowens hasn't been mentioned. Native of Newport, KY - NBA Rookie of the Year, NBA MVP, NBA Allstar (6X), and a member of the NBA 50th Anniversary Team.

Poek, Ralph Beard was a great player, but his involvement in the point shaving scandal at UK hurt his legacy and led to him being kick out of the NBA after only a few seasons.
