It appears it is Billy G who is scared to play UMass, not MB. He probably has a good handle on the team's abilities by now.

It comes down to $$$. UK does not want to play 5 non-conference road games. It's a shame that it was Travis, but it's a business.

Exactly!

You pay 50,000 to get out a game that is going to cost you WAY more in revenue.

Besides the fact that UK's out of conference schedule is already hard enough without them in it. Why even take a chance of getting a loss in that game away from home when losing money on it to begin with. It just makes sence from so many angles!

Your fanbase didn't think so when UofL paid off WKU a few years ago. I guess it's OK when uk Does it.

You hit that right on the head CN. The hypocrites on here had a field day with that but your right if UK does it, then it is a smart business move.

.......then UK is scared to play UMASS. TBCardsF Ive been here, just not much to smack and Im not going to just make stuff up to smack(GROVER) just so I can post here. This was a perfect time to show the hypocracy on this board. UL was chicken**** not to play WKU, and UK is gutless not to play UMASS. I just call it as I see it.

I don't venture over here much, so I can't speak intelligently about what the UK fans' views were of UL ditching WKU.

But if you check out the main basketball forum here, you'll see several Kentucky fans (myself included) who don't view this as a good move.

I'd like to know more about what made them make this decision, but on the surface I don't like it. Sure, we "honored" the contract per the buyout. And maybe UMASS should've had a more insuperable buyout. Sounds like the $50,000 is going to fall way, way short of "evening out" things financially for them. So maybe it's their fault for drawing up, or agreeing to, the contract.

But still. It'd been easy to play them in Boston, knock 'em silly, and then bid adieu. And it could easily be argued that that would've been the "right" thing to do.

Nobody's perfect. We love all-things Kentucky, but that doesn't mean that every single decision must be met with wholehearted approval.

Great post. For the record I didn't agree when we tried to dodge WKU, if my memory is right, we ended up playing them in Nashville(beat them like 30)after both WKU and our fans raised enough hell.

Boy, you sure can tell when it's a slow period in between seasons when a simple business decision to buyout a game contract (as if Louisville never does it) is the subject of a smack thread.

But, hey, that's okay. I needed a good laugh right now. :icon_rolleyes:

I personally never responed to any of that because I didn't really care if UL got out of a contract with who ever they wanted. I think that it is the universities choice to make. If they want out and are willing to pay the buy out what difference does it make.

UMASS is going to get 50,000 and they don't even have to step on a court to do it. I understand that they would rather have the game so as to help their SOS. But UK has a new coach who wasn't here when the game was a agreed to and if he wants out to have another home game then I agree with that. I wish it wasn't UMASS and Travis that had to take the blow but thats the way the cookie crumbles!

Buyout, $50,000.

24,000 * 22.00 = $528,000 plus concessions, etc.

Sounds like a sound business venture.

I hate to see them back out of Travis Ford, but what did UK have to gain by playing in Boston?

I would be scared too if I could make that much of a profit and didn't, and would probably lose my job.

Look guys, the press and uk fans beat UofL up for doing it, so turn about is fair play. Did you all think you would get a free pass on a smack board for this move???

Travis deserved better. You can back out on opponents if it's a good business decision (football teams do it all the time), but UK shouldn't of done this to Travis. He is true blue and one of us. End of story.

I think its absolutly horrible to back out of a home-home contract after a team played their home game first. This is their marquee game, their statement game. This has nothing to do with my bias, i just feel horrible for UMASS.

agreed.I fell sorry for UMASS too..the same way I felt for WKU when UL did the same thing....

I don't know which is worse, UK taking a dump on Travis Ford or him crying to Francine about it.

Mitch "the ditch" is getting pretty good at this game though. Moves the football game from first to third, schedules patsies to get padded wins, runs off a Championship winning coach and gets one with three whole NCAA wins, and now he's turning his nose up at a fellow Cat.

Mitch is a chicken.

Good thing you guys are beating us in basketball, he'd probably want to screw with that too.

You mean good thing UK is actually making the NCAA tournament every year. Which is more than UL can say over Pitino's career there.

You're so stupid, that has absolutly nothing to do with what we're talking out and you bring it up anyway. If look in the rules you're suppose to have a point to what ur saying, not just make a smartass comment to stir up stuff. Everyone brings it up every chance they get and its just stupid.

And if you look in the rules you arent supposed to make personal attacks or call someone names. Im sure "You're so stupid" belongs somewhere in that category
