This is certainly not totally unexpected but a bummer nonetheless. Shows we aren't where we want or need to be with instate guys just yet.

I don't understand the pull of Notre Dame when you can suit up in Blue and White. Kentucky is much, much more like home.

Notre Dame is making the switch over to a 3-4 defense this year and Newman fits. Besides he visited South Bend a total of three or four times.

Are you kidding? Kids grow up dreaming of playing college football at Notre Dame. Its the same as a kid growing up dreaming of playing basketball for UCLA, UK, Duke, or UNC. It doesnt matter where you live. He is just living a childhood dream. Notre Dame has just a little more history than UK football

Lot of things can happen between now and February. We need to beat UL, go to a bowl game, and don't let him forget us. I'd say it's a longshot he'd renounce ND and come here, but you never know.

No, I'm not kidding. Who wouldn't want to suit up for UK?!?

Maybe I should have included my ;) in the prior post.

I like your attitude, Jim. Too, you are so right. Yes, it seems most unlikely that Newman will change his mind, BUT "you never know" is so true.

Maybe Mr. Newman should reconsider his commit to the Irish and play for the Cats.

I have been saying this until I am blue in the face -- (oh, wait a minute, I am ALWAYS blue in the face) -- but less than 48 hours after Newman verballed to nd, they recruited over him. While I am not a proponnent of going after other people's commitments, I definitely think the Ctas need to keep the communication lines open with Mr. Newman. There is ample reason to think that he may see the light between now and February.

How I hope that you are right, SBCatMan! :) GO CATS! GO RICH!

The Cat's Pause is openly speculating that Mr. Newman may want to re-open his recruitment. Hopefully speculating out loud. Obviously ND is going no where faster than anyone.

We already have the UK Newman Center especially built for him. With only 8 scholarship places left, the train is getting ready to roll.

Indiana is a cold place in November.

This is a guy we need at a position where we and everyone else always needs help. This guy needs to be a Cat.

But, isn't it a bit ironic? I mean, does he come to UK and compete for PT with Peters and Jenkins and Pryor and Lumpkin or does he go to nd and play right away?

:-) (Sorry ... i just had to get that one in!)

I spent a lifetime there (South Bend) one winter. It snowed so much they had to quit plowing the streets, because the snow banks on the sides of the roads had gotten so high it just ran back down into the street.

This original post dates back to May.

With ND's stinking up the college football landscape; In the past few weeks I've read on other boards that Newman said if Charlie Weise gets fired he will possibly look elsewhere. That's a long shot for this season but at least there is some doubt in his mind.

I don't see Weis getting fired after this season no matter how bad the results. ND just gave him a 10-yr deal.

Just how stupid would firing him make them look? Extremely. I don't think the ND powers that be want to face that stupidity impression. OTOH, not firing him would look pretty stupid too.

Oh how I love it.

Weis will not get fired this year. I think he will be safe for at least another year, possibly two.

However, it is noteworthy that 3 members of his highly touted sophmore recruiting class have already left nd. A 4th one went home to Texas last week to re-think what he is doing, but then returned.

The problems at nd seem to go well beyond the 0-5 record and 7-game losing streak. If I were a recruit, I would really, really have to think twice before commiting to Weis.
