1) Louisville (Ky.) Pleasure Ridge Park defensive tackle Brandon Newman's commitment to Notre Dame is a huge loss for Kentucky. UK had the in-road with Brandon, having his best friend on the roster currently (Corey Peters), and his decision to commit to Notre Dame, means UK lost a lot of momentum in-state and if EJ Fields heads elsewhere, UK could go 'o-fer.'

2) A less noted verbal commitment, but one that was equally as tragic to UK's recruiting to date was the commitment of South Carolina back Andre Ellington from Berkeley High School. Ellington was a long-shot, but has some UK people in his inner-circle that have at least tried to get him to take a look at the Wildcats. Joker apparently met with Ellington recently and Andre told him that he wanted to stay in-state and play for Clemson or South Carolina. He committed to Clemson.

Picked up on another site that a DB recruit by the name of Omar Brown, who just now qualified for 07, is to meet with Joker and possibly Coach Brooks. Would probably be grayshirted into Jan 08 if offered due to us already being full with commitments for 07. No idea where he's from.

I'd hazard a guess he takes Duran Jefferson's scholarship.

That was what I was thinking.

You're allowed 85 on scholarship per year. We signed 27 in February - 2 of which are already on the squad (Winchell and Beets), bringing the current returning total to 61. Of the remaining 25 signees, Stafford is said to not qualify and Jefferson has this legal problem which is likely to sink him so that leaves 23 signees remaining for 24 spots. We will bring all the remaining guys in this fall if they all qualify and will have at least one extra scholarship to be given to a walkon this year.

I've been trying to google this guy's name. Nothing comes up but a former NFL star by that name. :shrug1:

Thanks, PtC. Makes since sense he's from SC & that's Joker Country. And he's the right position to fill-in for Jefferson.
