Let's not kid ourselves, had Billy D. had no NBA aspirations, he would've been the one to enter into negotiations with Mitch and UK. Just like Tubby had been contacted back in November (by the Parker Search Firm), you can bet the farm that Billy had contacts to his agent from Orlando, Memphis, Miami and others- that's just the way the pros work, they have very little regard for NCAA rules, nor do they have to.
My guess is that Mitch knew or at least had been informed that Billy D. was probably going to look at the NBA and no doubt Billy D. knew the same- that's why their conversation (and both have said this) lasted about 5 minutes.
Leave out the NBA and Donovan would have taken the UK position but we are all happy he didn't.
Who knows, Gillispie may have tons of success here and be in the NBA one day and Donovan may be in talks with us again- let's hope CBC is here for many years.
