From reading all of the message boards, I see all kinds of fans (UK, FSU, etc) telling Gators that they should get Grant.... they won't miss a beat. Well guess what, if your rivals like that coach that is NOT the coach you want to hire. That's how whenever we hired BG, I knew we had the right guy because UL, IU, UT, etc fans HATED him. :icon_mrgreen:

He may turn out to be a great coach, but could you imagine what it would have been like if MB had hired a coach with 1 year of experience? We would all have needed asbestos suits around here....

At this point there are not alot of top notch coaches to pick from. The next coach could really catch a hard time trying to live in BD's shadow. I know there is alot of incoming talent but when you lose your top 7 players off of a two time defending championship team you could be setting yourself up for failure. If the next coach comes in and doesn't succeed early he will be living rough.

Not to bring up the past but Rick left OTS in good shape and he had success early what if OTS had to start with what he left CBC...... would he have been as successful?

To me, Anthony Grant might be the most obvious example of a hot-shot young coach who is fully capable of being either great or a bust. He has shockingly little experience, but that doesn't matter to most fans.

Anthony Grant is a god to some people. Many even suggested he be UK's next coach.

Goes to show that having a sexy style and pulling off one or two nice, but by no means amazing, feats can get you the adoration of an amazing amount of people who have no idea what they're talking about.

What it shows is one thing:

People hate Duke, and a lot of folks tuned in to watch VCU beat them this past year.

Grant became a veritable American hero when the horn blew.

If I were Foley, Grant wouldn't be my top choice. He might not even be my fifth.

I think it shows more than that.

There are Kentucky fans that think Grant has the potential to be one of the greatest college coaches of all time. No, that's not an exaggeration: I pulled that exact label from a post on another board. While most fans won't go that far, many refuse to go below the "future great high-major coach" mark.

Which is insane. Lavender is right in that they got it mainly by beating Dook. There's more to it, though: people are giving him an amazingly disproportionate amount of credit for Florida's recruiting and player development, and have fallen in love with his up-tempo style of play.

That's a lot of love. For that love to be deserved, Grant must have accomplished a hell of a lot. He hasn't. The man has one year of head coaching experience. ONE. In that time, VCU had a great year (though most of that credit goes to the poor ballhandling of George Mason and the forgiveness of CAA rims).

To me, this is just another example of fans who see a energetic young coach who has some high-profile success and put him in line after Jesus. There's been a lot of these guys, some succeeding, most failing. Grant had a great year and he could be a great coach in time. But he's not the surefire Next Big Thing.

I don't really understand what you are trying to say here. :shrug1: Anyways.

I don't know what the future holds for the UF basketball program.

But I do know one thing. I think Anthony Grant would be an ideal candidate for the job. He hasn't really proven anything yet but who was Billy D before he got the UF job.

Anthony Grant has been a figure head at the University for some time now. Most of the current players have some kind of a relationship with him. It would be a smooth transition.

On to his coaching. I (like most) only watched one game of VCU this year. The amazing (and quite satisfying) beat down of the Dookies in the NCAA tournament. I came away very impressed with Grant's style of play and enthusiasm. I loved the way he utilized the press and half court traps. Thats why Scratch (I think it was him, by the way he hasn't shown up here in a while :shrug1:) was so high on him.

But does one game give him a pass to be an elite coach at a good school. That's to be determined.

I would LOVE to see UFL hire Anthony Grant. Watching our (current) biggest rival roll the dice on a a 1 year wonder(and thats ALL he is at this point) tickles me to death. A Question , How many of these "Next Big Thing" coaches have we seen fall flat in the last decade. How many have we seen succeed. At this point Grant is mainly a MEDIA creation. His body of work as a head coach is so thin it's almost non-existant. He might be a great coach someday, but I for one would much rather see them hire somone who MIGHT be great than go out and get someone who has PROVEN to be great. Much better deal for UK IM.O

79-77. Beatdown? Wow.

The score is not indicative of how VCU really outplayed Duke during that game. It probably wasn't a beat down, but any time Duke loses to what is suppose to be an inferior team, it's a joyous occasion.
