I live in Nashville so I definitely won't miss it. I was very, very pregnant (2 weeks overdue) during the last SEC tournament or else we would have been there.

Our third child was born on March 31st. I joked with my wife that if she had gone two days later, we could have gone to Bristol again this year.

What hotel is everyone staying in this year?

I started a similar thread earlier about the tourney

Buc, you planning on driving out to Nashville? I think we might just make it this year. Just have to watch out for Terry L Wildcat, I hear he's a bad influence!:D

I am getting anxious about the hotel situation there. Most of the fun of going to the tournament is being able to hang out with our online family. I wish we could all be together somewhere.

Who has booked a room already and where?

It would be great if we could have another pep rally at that place we did it before. UKBob and WildcatRick, do you remember the name of that place? Mel said they were very cooperative, couldn't do enough to help us out. And I believe we didn't lose money on that place. I think everybody had a ball there. What do you think?

WildcatRick has already ben scoping things out there and we will likely have an update later. If we are all here then, we will definitely have something going on there.

I`ve always wanted to go to the sec tourney but it`s the week after the sunbelt and usually in Atlanta so it`s not been an option I could afford. I`m sick and tired of just reading about all the fun you guys have; :D, I`m going to experience it this yr :dude:since Gaylord is just 96.3 miles from whereI usually park my truck...

Yeah! We will be driving to Bowling Green first to drop off the little one with his grandmother. Probally leave on Tuesday the 7th. Spend a night in Bowling Green and head to Nashvegas the next day.

Of course everything could change by then!

I'll be there with my wife, brother and sister-in-law. We are trying to talk another brother into joining us this year. I know for sure I have a room booked, I just don't know which one. A friend of my brother gets the rooms. Once I find out which one, I might take a weekend trip to check it out.

I plan on being there with Kuttawa Cat. We are a little worried abou the hotel situation. I have a feeling we will be staying away from downtown. Also a little worried about getting to the arena from the hotel. Anybody know if there will be shuttles running?

Atl was great last year. I wish they had it in Atl every year.

i live in nashville so i will definitely be here!i went to the last one in nashville. it was amazing to see the sea of blue that filled downtown nashville.

here's my thoughts on the hotels....
UNION STATION - i'm not sure what the rooms are going for but i think the 'union station' isa beautiful place to stay and it's a pretty short walk to the arena.
OPRYLAND HOTELis really nice as well if they are running the river taxis that take you right into downtown.
LOEWS VANDERBILT PLAZA specializes in accomodating your pets. my mom and step dad stayed there and they treated their dog like she was a little v.i.p....it's also pretty close to downtown.

for cheaper rooms your gonna' have to look outside the city a little bit. STAY AWAY FROM THE NORTHEAST of nashville if you can (briley parkway east from I-65) . it's a mess with all the road construction. the brain buckets that are building the roads have built all these half-assed temporary on ramps and off ramps... the acceleration ramps have stop signs at the end of them!!! brilliant! very dangerous!

Any disadvantages that you know of to the Doubletree on 4th? I'd liketo walk to the center.

i've not stayed there pesonally but you can't beat the location. your three blocks from the arena and two blocks from all the bars. as far as being safe when your walking, you should not have any problem walking to the arena. don't venture too far north-west from the hotel (passed the courthouse or capitol- union st.) it can be sketchy that direction.

Lisa and I will be there.

I have a tenative hotel reservation at the Loews Vanderbilt, but will switch if we are successful in getting a WCN hotel deal put together.

Otherwise..... I reckon we'll all pile into Terry and Ryan's room at the Marriott... ;)

Are Terry and Ryan staying at the Marriott, or is this a cheap trick to get me take the 4th Annual Bourbon Tasting to that hotel?? Not that Ryan gets a great Marriott rate or anything:D:D:D

I will also switch if WCN is able to work out a hotel deal.

I'm already getting pumped up about this, it will be my first SEC tourney! The wife is a little nervous though it will be the first time she's ever spent the night away from her little one.

PLEASE. PLEASE....take it from a local who has had more experience with this than i'd like to admit....(i'm all better now:Dsince i got married and had a kid but back in the day......)

if your going farther than you can walk.....take a cab.

the police here are very strict on DUI's and they will be out in force with an event like the SEC tourny taking place. that's a huge revenue source for them.

i have not personally met any of you but i'd love to throw back some bourbon and hang with someb-ball fans come tourny time....it's all whiskey and football here ya' know.

You don't know our group...we wouldn't drive a car at the point of a gun....:Dstaggering is healthier, and gives you time to finish a bottle of Bookers before you get to the arena...( please, do you think yer dealing with rookies here?!?!?!?!;):D)

scathendo
06-29-2005, 12:09 PM
you are right, i don't know your group but it sounds like you have a hell of a time. i'm just trying to save someone (either you or a 'rookie' reading this thread) a great big pain and expense, not to mention the chance of hurting themselves or someone else. i have good intentions believe me!:)

...some great spots for a beer, foodor shot on the way....

the flying saucer...70+ taps on the wall; 150+ bottled choices of beer. food is ok.

big river, market street, and blackstone all brew their own beer and i like them all. big river and market street on right on 2nd ave and blackstone is just outside of downtown on broadway. blackstone has the best eats of the three in my opinion.

broadway brewhouse and mojo grill...great food on one side and a big selection of beer on the other. it's a bit of a dive but it's my favorite place in town. they have the best hot wings i've ever had. they are slow roasted and then sauteed in your choice of sauce. i go for the 'mojo wings' but watch out cuz they're HOT!

and if you'd like to hear real bluegrass then check out a place called 'the station inn'. great players all the time! bottled beer (just the basics).

or'the nashville rage' http://www.nashvillerage.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=RAGE&template=front

these are guiderags that tell you everything that is happening in the city. the rage is still fairly new and still local i think and i tend to agree with their reviews more than the scene which isowned bythe 'village voice' in NYC.

Since Denhunter, being the master communicator that he is, ;)was saying "Ryan" in the context of the Kaelin brothers picture, I didn't get who he was talking about.

Of course, Ryan is my very good friend Colorado Wildcat. And yes, the truth is, I did run off with him and THREE other fellows who adopted me as their running buddy for the SEC tournament. I'm hoping they'll let me hang out with them again next year because I had a blast! (Ryan, Terry, Scott, Mikee - hope to see you all there!)

It may sound of ill intent, running around with three guys, but there was nothing inappropriate about itat all. I have always had more good guy friends than girl friends for some reason.

I was just able to get a reservation at the Renaissance on Commerce St... I've cancelled one at the Loews Vanderbilt - that would have been a lot of cab fares.

That's at least Lisa and me, Terry L. Wildcat, Colorado Wildcat, and CurlyCat... Anyone else? Denhunter?

Looks like the Doubletree is easy walking distance, too...

If we can get a WCN hotel going...... we'll still probably switch, though. I'd suggest all go ahead and make cancellable reservations; if and when we are able to pull off a WCN deal, you can always cut it loose (check the "cancel by" date, though... with special events they may require earlier notice to avoid charges).

The airfare is another $1200, the tickets probably 600-800, and geez, ya gotta eat! I will have my son with me as well as Rebecca, and maybe my youngest daughter...I have to stay cheaper...or rent a giant RV, and park in the Renaissance lot....:cry:Anyone got an idea how to get a cheaper rate? WOW!! Stayed at the Courtyard downtown last weekend and it was NICE. Real close to Gaylord. Paid on $94/night. I just can't bring myself to pay $150/night! My husband is probably going, so I can't even split the cost with the girls.

Anyone know anything about the Doubletree near the airport? It's only about $80/night. It says 7 miles from downtown. I know there will be traffic, but I'm just wondering if anyone knows if it's decent. We'll have to get about 5 rooms...there's a bunch of us going.

I just reserved a room at the Days Inn near the Coliseum/Downtown (http://www.daysinnnashville.com/) and got an unbelievable rate. I found the rate on the internet and called to confirm the rate is correct. They said yep and I didnt have to put any money down on the room. I just had to give them my credit card. I know it probably wont be the nicest place to stay in Nashville but you cant beat paying $188 for Thursday-Sunday. Plus, I dont think I will be spending too much time in my room. It's within walking distance of the Gaylord. You will have to walk across a bridge but for this rate, you can't beat it.

For all of you country music historians, this is the place Roger Miller built and named it the "King of the Road Hotel".

Hey I know exactly where you are talking about as we go park close to it for the Titan's games. You DO NOT want to walk as it is a pretty far walk to the GEC and it is not the part of town you want to be walking in alone in. :shock:IF you stay there I would take a taxi back and forth. I have not been in the hotel so can't say what it looks like inside but the area is... well, it is okay to walk in groups like we do for the Titans game but I would not want to walk there any other time. Just mho for whatever it is worth.

Also for those who are coming to my "fair" city, the Trinity Lane area is also a spot you want to be careful in. There are hotels along I65 and Trinity Lane/Brick Church Pike that are chains but after dark I would be leery. The airport/Briley Parkway/Elm Hill Pike/Opryland area would be ok but a little bit of a drive. That is the only thing about this being in Nashville as the hotels downtown are either scarce or outrageous!

If it is the one I am thinking about it is on West End and right on the corner by the Vanderbilt football stadium and across from Centennial Park. I would have thought it was more than 2 miles from the GEC.I would take the shuttle for sure. It seems to be pretty nice.

The Hampton is almost across the street from this Holiday Inn. It is on the opposite corner of Logan's Resturant which used to be Applebee's for those that have been to Vandy/UK game. We always have parked there, eaten and walked across West End to the games. Should be nice as well but not sure if shuttle available.

Holiday Inn Select on West End--I'd say take the shuttle. Seems like it's a lot longer than 2 miles to the GEC, but maybe it's due to all of the traffic signals. Walking might also be a death sentence due to the amount of traffic along there.

Loews Vanderbilt--I just went there recently for a dinner. Very nice hotel; I think it's where Bush stayed when he was in town the last time. Definitely not as far as the Holiday Inn Select, but still a good walk. See above about traffic on West End. It just seems like it's further than a mile to me. Since it's near Vanderbilt, it'sa decent area. Think college area mixed with a bit of uptown flair, and that's the kind of area you'll be in. But it's not far from downtown, so I don't know about crime and safety after dark and whatnot. I've never felt in danger down there the few times I've been down there late.

If I drive out to those areas anytime soon, I'll set my trip meter and let you all know how far it REALLY is to the GEC. FYI, it would mainly be a downhill walk to get to the GEC (just in the last few blocks), but an uphill hike for a few blocks, then mainly level, to get back to the West End area.

Close to Lake Norman. That should ring a bell.

Yes, I think so. I usually go down with a brother and a sister so will talk to them this weekend and plan on booking Monday. Look forward to meeting you. I met several of the WildcatFaithful in Atlanta and I recognize your name from there.

Heads up, everyone! I found out a little bit last night about what the local alumni club is going to do for the SEC Tournament! These details are tentative, but here they are:

A pep rally, hosted by the Nashville UK Alumni Club, is scheduled to be held Thursday? (there were a lot of people talking over the speaker, so maybe he said Friday). Right now, they're looking at the Wild Horse Saloon (http://www.wildhorsesaloon.com/) downtown as the venue. (It's further away from the hotel where Rick booked the block of rooms than the GEC is by a few blocks.) They mentioned something about the pep band being there, and being able to meet all kinds of people. I hesitate to say the players, but if it's Thursday and we get a first-round bye, that's possible.

Here's the website (http://www.alumniconnections.com/olc/pub/UKY/cpages/chapterpage.jsp?chapter=53&org=UKY) for the Nashville UK Alumni Club. I imagine that they will post updates about the pep rally as they find out more information. They said that they'll need a lot of volunteers, so if you live in the Nashville area (or even if you don't, lol) and want to help out, there's contact information on that page as well.

Sorry about the sketchiness of some of the details. Not only is nothing written in stone yet (except that they're planning a pep rally), but it's hard to hear over dozens of people chatting amongst themselves.

See you in March!

I have heard that the tickets for the tourney will be $300 per book. (If you can get them). Wasn't they only $200 last year? I guess they are making up for the lack of seating.

I e-mailed the SEC office and that was the price they told me.

I really hope they're not more expensive. We have a single mom going, and taking her son for the first time for his birthday and he's SO excited! IF they're doing it to "make up" for the lack of seating, they should have thought about that before agreeing to have it there! :(

BigBlueTom wrote: The one positive of prices being higher is that there may be more available through the other schools. It's a very tough ticket in Nashville, or at least it was the last time for me. Even though they're $300 I'd say if you can get the book for $300, you better. GO BIG BLUE!!!Last time, were the tickets difficult to find? Or were they available, but expensive?

Anybody know when the tickets go on sale? January? Before that?

I had to buy mine on eBay last year because all the good seats were gone from the SEC ticket office by the time I tried to order.

I'm not sure the SEC really has a plan, or one that is firm. Last I heard the tickets were going to be made available to season ticket holders/donors and tickets not sold by the schools would be released to the public in February.
