As much as I would like to see it happen, this is the most ridiculous rumor I've heard since WE were trying to find a coach. This kind of trash shouldn't even be repeated, even if it is from a "legit" source. Let's not turn this forum into the National Enquirer.

Initially I thought it bogus too. After thinking more on it I am not so sure that it isn't true that he is considering it? Trying to put myself in his shoes and consider what the family may want and the weather and lifestyle differences it very well could be a very strong lure for him? I know I would much rather live near the ocean if I could make the big bucks at the same time. I am not so sure how his ego would handle playing follow up to one of his former players as the coach there though. :)

We couldn't be so lucky. And I only mean it would be so nice to not read/hear about or watch his every move on the local media. The biggest reason for his not going there is exactly that....he and his basketball program would be an also ran down there but he should be getting kind of used to that.:icon_twisted:

And I think they said Petrino was "here to stay" also.

Schnellenber and Pitino has UK ties- I'm suprised UofL hires so many UK people, oh yeah, doesn't UofL have some assistants with UK ties in fball?

NO and CHANCE...that would be a step down. Louisville gets 19,500 people every game, has TREMENDOUS fan support, has been the top $ grossing program for the last 3 years and is in the best conference (usually) in the nation...Florida has had 2 great years, L'ville has had decades of tradition...this is a rumor at best....

Take it for what it is ..... an ego-maniac trying to get people to talk about him. Next he will say they he's not interested in the job, though Florida never was interested in him. :icon_rolleyes:

OTOH:

Florida could pay him more money, he'd be back in the SEC, he'd be out of earshot of UK fans who criticized him for the move (including, I'm sure, a lot of friends in Lexington), he'd be following up a man he mentored, he'd be inheriting a bright future that Donovan built, and he would be in the sunny state of Florida. I know for a fact that Pitino had a tough year last season for the most part; he had continuing disciplinary problems, he criticized the fans many times for taking shots at him, and he skipped his coach's show with regularity through the first half of the season.

I doubt it will happen, but there are a lot of intriguing reasons that this could be more than just a rumor.

yeah, that was classic when he came out and said he had no interest in the UK job (though I'm sure he was asked the question and giving a response) but still...

I don't think it would be a step back at all. Florida has as many championships as Louiville does, and they're doing it in an age of much greater parity. Just because those titles are recent doesn't diminish the "tradition" that is being built there now.

Florida only has one way to go, down. No matter who takes over the team will never again be as good as it has been the last two years. Would Pitino want to walk into a situation like that? I don't think so. Recruiting at Florida would be easier than at the commuter college he's at now, and the monetary support for the program and facilities at Florida are superior, but taking over a program that is guaranteed to fall a rung or two doesn't sound like something an egomaniac would be interested in. You get the adulation for going from zero to hero, not the other way around.

With his monstrous ego, I don't think Pitino would view the situation that way.

Pitino always likes a challenge...FL would give him that...he rebuilds thats what he does...he takes medicore teams and builds them into contenders. I believe that FL would be a great position for him due to the circumstances he would welcome.

I don't think it will happen but I think that given their recruiting class, he would have a better chance at winning another ring at Florida in the next 5 years than he does in Louisville.

With Pitino, it doesn't really matter what makes the most overall sense, it has to do with what is best for him. I think the odds are against it but only from a 60/40 split.

Who wouldn't rather live in Florida than that waste hazard dump known as louisville. That being fact, pitino is a gawd to the attention-starved legion of redbeaks. He is still the toast of the town and that is a pre-requisite. He is nearing the age where he shouldn't want to pack up, move and start all over again. I doubt this is anything more than the media in louville trying to keep their man and their team in the limelight. It would seem the c-j would satisfy and scratch that itch but they are a local craprag. The "tip" probably came from ole rickie boy himself or tommyturtleneck trying to justify that overblown, laughable salary he GAVE rickie because he pouted after UK gave Billy G the money he commanded. What a complete waste of airtime in that sports-rich new yawk-wannabe river city metropolis.:icon_rolleyes:

I think that you can make your point without putting down the city of Louisville. Pitino is a jerk, no doubt, but Louisville is a clean place to live with a great deal of culture and acts as the economic engine of the state of Kentucky.

I wouldn't want to raise my kids to be like Rick Pitino but I can think of a lot of places worse than Louisville for them to live.

Yeah I was going to put in a "no offense" to louisville residents who actually enjoy living there but I got on a rant about rickie p and tommy t and forgot to do so. I personally loathe that city and am very thankful I don't have to live there. I am sure the burbs are nice but when I refer to the city I am talking about the part their campus sits on and aroundlike the cesspool the pizza palace sits on.

Is it just me or when Pitino signed with uofl didnt he say he wanted to be back in the state of Kentucky? If he did, which I think he did, he would not move. He left and came back because he liked the state, why would he leave again? IMO uofl will be better than Florida next year and for some years to come so why would he make the move?

He's getting old & old people go to Florida;) Who knows, if he wants to go, he'll come up with some justification that makes him look good.

Have you ever been to Gainesville? It's not paradise by any means....and there is something in L'ville that isn't in Gainesville....MONEY, there are more high class, millionaire socialites to gather with and schmooze in the 'Ville, MUCH MORE...not sure why this topic is generating this kind of buzz on the boards since it's a moot point, it ain't gonna happen...but to say Pitino has a better chance of winning in UF in the next couple years? Better check UL's lineup next year, they're stacked...and L'ville (love them or hate them) has 10 times the basketball tradition as UF, Ricky is happy, he'll probably coach another 5-10 years at UL then retire...

I think he's to old to make the move. I think he's 2 and done at LilBro. Florida is a better gig. If he was in it for the long haul Florida would be a good move. Its a easier recruiting job. Lil Bro is like recruiting at Cincinnati.

Commuter schools are always at a disadvantage because their academics are poor and the better students will look elsewhere. At Florida he doesn't have to recruit 15-ACT thugs like he and Huggins have had to do. That is why Huggins was pretty quick to exit to WVA. State schools have an advantage with the name.

The only other thing that could be a motivating factor is that his son is on staff now. He's obvioulsy placing him in the 2-3 years to retirement/replacement mode. He'd be doing his son a big favor by making a UF move.

Opps, my face is red! I intended for my post to read, "Pitino is on MY list, just my list of people I'd NOT want to be Kentucky's coach." That was my attempt at a little humor, but I guess this joke is on me. Let me clearly state, once and for all, I do NOT want Pitino back as our coach. And I agree with you about Billy Gillispie. I'm very happy he's our coach.
