have you ever noticed that when RM seals off a man on his left hip (on the left side of the lane), he'll still spin to the middle when he gets the ball?

It's either that he's not comfortable going back to his right; or, he expects a doube-team to come from that direction.

If he signs with the Lakers, Kareem will teach him what to do

oh well.

Go CATS!

I sure don't understand the substitutions. 6'-6" 150lb center won't work.

Great play? By which team. Wide open shots for Vandy, floor length drives uncontested, drives from the top of the key uncontested. Chippies allowed and fouled without cracking the shot? Awful half. We are lucky to be in the game and wouldn't be if we weren't hitting the 3's like we do. What are we going to give up next half? 70%? Damt.

I agree.

If that's good basketball, I don't want it.

Neither team had any notion of defending. I'm about sick of guys dribbling it into the lane against us and just bullying our guys when they get it into the paint. We've GOT to be the weakest team physically I've ever seen.

As has been said a thousand times on this board, we are definately down in talent this year. That being said, we have TWICE the talent of Vanderbilt. We should be winning by 10-15 points.

Sheray is really getting banged around more than he was early in the season. I wonder if the effects of that tumor aren't coming back. It's like he's hit a wall.

But this game can be won on the shoulders of one guy. It isn't SEC football where you need waves of depth. Get one guy hot and he can singlehandedly lead you. And tonight, as it was in the first meeting with Vandy, it's Shan Foster.

We just don't have a match-up for him. Joe's too compact. Bobby and Sheray are too slow. Ravi's not physical enough.

It's a quandry.

BUT you still have to be stopping these other guys. There's no excuse for guys like Carrol and Byars to get such easy shots.

largebluej
02-11-2006, 03:05 PM
JP crew just said that was the highest-scoring first half of the year for both teams, which to me supports the argument that what we just saw was due more tolack of defense that great offense. . . . .. .if Morris gets his 3rd foul early, we're going to be in big trouble. . . . .

On the play before that, though, he threw a great pass to Woo and then completely lost his man under the basket. I bet that's the first lay-up Cage has made in his career.

Again: true UK fashion. One smart play, one mindless play.

Yep.

Sparks is just completely leaving Byars. Looks like he's got his eyes on the other end of the court as Vandy is working the ball through their offense.

We're going to need him now, though. THis is going to come down to hitting shots, because it's obvious we can't stop them consistently when they're actually shooting the basketball.

The referees didn't let Vandy get open cuts inside the paint wherever they wanted. The referees didn't force Morris into making dumb fouls. The referees didn't give the Vandy shooters open looks from 3 point land.

That is excuse making plain and simple. I guess that is what we are left with at this point in the season.

Disagree. Refs didn't allow layups. Refs didn't stop us from scoring. Refs didn't miss freethows. Yeh, there have been some ticky-tack calls, but Rondo clobbered a guy just a minute ago and no call.

Not much you can do, though, down by 3 with barely 2 seconds left. As phoenix said, they would have just hammered Sparks if he would have caught it and made a three pointer moot. (And really, I don't think he's quick enough to get open in that particular situation.)

You've got to make at least one of those free throws. That would have changed the whole dynamic of that last set.

But as I said last week, this team just doesn't have it. :?:thumbdown

I am not telling you anything like that, he was off balance when he shot it and did NOT take a good shot. Look at it on your tape and you will see it. He could have gone down to Joe on the left and had a better chance than trying to shoot a 3 while basically tipping forward. He has never shot 90% and you know that as well as anybody here. It was an incorrect decision and his mind wrote a check his body couldn't cash. If he wants to stop and set up and shoot fine or pass fine but the shot he took sucked, even when he is hot a bad shot is a bad shot.

I'm not posting this as either a support Tubby or bash Tubby post, I just think one final run is coming. And then, in the off season, I think this team will get a major overhaul in more areas than one. AS the Tournament gets closer, these kids will play for the sake of the team as opposed to the sake of the individual.

Hey, I want Rondo back......if for no other reason than to help get Jasper where he'll need to be. Rajon's no more to blame for this "blight of a year" than anyone else. Frankly, they ALL need to take a gut check and decide whether they may be better suited at a mid-major, or perhaps focus on some individual sport where"team" is not a consideration. Bottom line....it IS what it IS!

We have seen what interchanging players has brought the last eight years. It has been a long time since we had a game where you can really say you enjoyed watching the players play. Even weak teams over the last couple of years play KY close. Lets see what a change elsewhere in the program will bring. We got swept by a team with a losing record in the SEC!

When they start paying the athletes 2 Mill per year or 6 Figure salaries, then I will place some blame at the foot of the players. As it is, the coaches get paid big money to coach AND recruit AND build teams.

Tubby doesn't get paid to win 20 games a year. He gets paid to put together true teams that are championship contenders.

Tubby Smith doens't get paid to take summers off and recruit in the fall.

Tubby Smith doesn't get paid to keep his buddies employed with a free ride on the bench.

Tubby gets paid to put together a staff that can coach, recruit and create contenders. He's done that about 60% of his time at UK.

That is a failing grade in my opinion. He is getting paid Championship Money. He should be held to Championship standards.

This half *** everyone has a down year argument is not realistic for a man being paid 2.2 million dollars a year. He took that money. He signed that contract. he knows the expectations and the pressure. Tubby Smith is no innocent.

It's time for the excuses to stop and the job to get done. It's past time. Way past time.
