is paris going to start from day one? i ask because i am getting the impression that is one of the biggest d recruits we have had in some time.(barring M. Johnson) playing d end at 6'6 and running a sub 4.6 40 should provide us some great pass rushing. and he should also be able to help cause mass confusion in the backfield on during runs.
so i am just wondering if anyone has heard or read anything that would help predict not only if he is going to start, but what our overall depth chart looks like as of now.

p.s. is M. Johnson going to be as good as advertised this year? just another thing i was wondering.

Time will tell. MJ looks like a DT trying to play LB to me. Last year he usually couldn't catch the ball carrier and he usually missed the tackle when he did catch one. But, he was a freshman last year.

Jamil is looking real good right now and barring injury will log a lot of minutes at weakside DE. His speed off the edge is unreal and is one of the guys we have that looks like some of the athletes we face with regularity in the SEC. With him and Woodyard both on the weakside it could cause some extreme problems for teams in passing situations. If he can keep his academics in order I look for him to have a very big year.

Micah has really cut the weight off and is in the 250 range. Almost looks skinny (not really) but you can tell he's worked extremely hard and has an NFL body. Hopefully with the change in philosophy on D it will allow him to maximize his abilities and he will get more playing time but Braxton Kelly will be very difficult to unseat at MLB.

I remember Paris being upset after getting injured in the Florida game because he said he would have gotten three sacks had he not been hurt. He had one against UF when he was injured. UK's defense took the step up last year when it started going with Kelley the whole game at MLB instead of trying to get MJ his fair share of reps, too. I don't know if that was the only reason why UK all of a sudden got better, but I'm kind of superstitious about not wanting to change what worked.

Regardless of where Micah plays, he will be a beast and one of the best defensive players in the history of UK football. I hope he stays at LB just because he was Woodyard to learn from last year and this year and he will be a junior when Woodyard is gone. I think Johnson will be better than Woodyard in the end. I also wouldnt mind seeing him get in at full back sometimes this year

As one of the coaches recently said (can't recall where), till the light comes on for MJ this won't be true. Braxton Kelly is good but doubt he's AA & MJ can't beat him out. So how can MJ be on track to be great? He's not IMO & this is wishful thinking.

Woodyard was a much better true freshman than Micah. Time will tell whether Micah can be better than Woodyard. If he can, he will be an AA candidate and will be playing on Sundays, thereafter.

Woodyard was a much better true freshman because he didnt have to play behind the talent that Micah is playing behind. Of course Micah wont have the huge numbers his first two years but look who he is playing behind. His minutes have been limited. But after this year (his junior and senior seasons) Micah will be the best LB in the SEC and an AA candidate his senior year. There is no doubt in my mind that he will be playing on Sundays. But yes, time will tell and we will all be told in the next 3 seasons

No. Micah was flat out lost at times last year. Woodyard was more of a stud as a true freshman than Micah proved last year. Just judging when they were on the field, Woodyard wins that battle hands down. I sure hope Micah proves to be better over the career, but looking at both players' frosh seasons, Woodyard was truly amazing while Micah had a few flashes that would compare to Woodyard.

Braxton's starting time is not an indication of Micah's lack of ability or skill, but of his own talent. The kid can play. He played a TON as a freshman, and credibly, too. It is nice to finally have some depth at the linebacker position.
