What you need to know: The coaching staff is new, but the results won’t differ much from last season when Louisville rung up 37 points and 475 yards a game. The Cardinals will spread the field and ask future first round draft choice Brian Brohm to distribute the ball to his plethora of playmakers. Brohm’s embarrassment of riches at receiver includes senior Harry Douglas, junior Mario Urrutia and senior Gary Barnidge, who combined for 159 receptions and 16 touchdowns in 2006. Head coach Steve Kragthorpe and offensive coordinator Charlie Stubbs love leaning on the tight end, so Barnidge could be particularly busy this fall. Even without Michael Bush the running game is in good shape with the returns of Anthony Allen and George Stripling, a thunder and lightning combo that had 20 touchdowns a year ago. If Kragthorpe was able to supercharge the Tulsa

from the article: Key game: Sept. 15 at Kentucky. Of course the last month of the Big East season is all huge, but for Louisville to have the season it thinks it can have beating an improved Kentucky is a must. After winning four straight over its in-state rival, a loss could be disastrous to Kragthorpe and the new coaching staff.

Of course it's their Key Game! Always has been, always will be. They will play the best in their conference, but UK will still be the best team they play.

That certainly doesn't hold true with the roles reversed.

Okay, that quote is just out of touch with reality. West Virginia is just a bit better than the Cats by the margin of the width of the Grand Canyon.

Rutgers, as well.

We have a solid team...but WVU and Rutgers are both top 15 quality...with WVU being a top 3 team.

Some of the preseason mags and talking heads are saying Utah is gonna have a pretty good squad this year, some have compared Utah to last years Boise State squad. I would be surpised to see UL get past Uk, Rutgers, Utah and WVA without taking a loss.

You can't get forget about South Florida either, Jim Leavitt is building something special down there. A lot of Cane fans are a bit concerned about Leavitt and the South Florida program.

Leavitt is doing something special down there. A few years ago, the Cats barely escaped with a win vs them, and I think the Cards took one on the chin a few years back.

The WVU, Rutgers and South Florida games are also bigger because we can take a loss to UK and still win the Big East and go to a BCS bowl.

there aren't enough bridges in Louisville for the UL fan base to jump off of if UL loses to UK....................

No not at all, the game just 1) Isnt as important to UofL as it is to UK, you have to realize that, and 2) will be much easier than the games at Morgantown and South Florida. Both of them last year proved they can play with the best, but UK didnt (LSU, Louisville, Florida blowouts last year).

it's ok, there are enough uk fans already in the water(7 yrs worth) to save us if a miracle happens and we some how lose to uk.

This is not the smack board, so save it. UK will be better than South Florida. UK beat UGA & Clemson, I doubt SFU beat anyone of that caliber.

Now THAT'S funny. Dream on pal.

That's a different line than your own Coach said as recently as last year when he was talking about gameplanning for UK the entire off-season and that the season was two parts - UK and the rest of the season.

Ummmmm... They beat West Virginia AT Morgantown. Their defense may be the fastest in the country and they're returning 17 starters.

I don't really consider UF a blowout. UK did lose by 3 TD's but they were in the game in the second half. The other two were both Blowouts one of huge proportions.

That is like saying Clemson beat Wake Forest so they must be better than Wake Forest.

Yes, yes i know. But believe me, the environment will be like Rutgers when we go to Florida. Their fans think this will be "their season".

Also, sorry bout that post Brian. Since the whole topic is about UofL i thought i'd give my honest two cents in here. Hopefully someone values my opinion, and if they dont, well, i dont care i'll give it anyway.

I agree Rutgers is a tough place to play but I don't think USF even compares.

As it should be IMHO. The vast majority of Cat-Card fans consider it as the game of the year. It's the only matchup folks talk all year about. Honestly, RV the Petrino quote you referenced, is one of the few times Petrino's mouth was moving and he wasn't lying.

WVU was overranked!

I dont think they were "overranked" because of how powerful their offense is. They have the best running QB in the nation and one of the top 3 backs in the nation. They are unstoppable when they decide to run. They have a very fast and athletic defense as well. I think WVU will make a serious title run this year if they can hold off UofL and Rutgers which will both be tough games.

Are you kidding me? Nothing about Piscataway, NJ scares me. 41,112 average attendance which ranked 55th.

Ooooh. Scary. Hold me.

The team, Rutgers, sure they are a very solid ballclub. But there is nothing inherently hard about playing there - stadia or crazed fan wise.
