There is a thread in the basketball forum asking about Self and Gillispie's relationship becoming strained should they both go after the same big time recruit. Well, this might be the first go around

Maybe Miller or Warren will commit and put an end to that story?
I doubt we land but one of the three. But then, I have no grasp on what Gillispie's plan is, as of this point in his short career.

It's hard telling. But I noticed that he's listed as a pg?
I thought Warren and Miller were 2-guards? So why not Liggins and maybe Warren or Miller? Clarke and Warren would be fine too, lol.
Either way, sounds like we'll be getting studs next year.
what was the basics of the article that was linked on the KSR site?

The gist of it was that Liggins took a surprise visit to UK this weekend and was blown away. Maggard previously wrote that we had absolutely no chance at Liggins, because the director of his AAU team was good friends with Calipari and Self and wanted him to go to one of those two schools. However, his high school coaches as well as his AAU coach do like UK.

fwiw, I think this is GREAT news. I'm a huge Liggins fan and would love to see him be a part of our 08 class. He has a weird way of pinching his knees together that makes his shot look kind of goofy, but his passing and vision is near perfect for a player his age.
Great video of him here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGWJi8RkUEQ)

Just out of curiosity, if we did happen to land Miller and Zeller(which I hope we do) and could only take Liggins or Warren, which would be your preference?

Warren is a 2G, but Miller is a SF/PF.

Oh, ok. Didn't know that about Miller. Pretty bad, I know. top 30 talent in state, and I don't know his position. Anyways, I'd love to see us land a stud center, but doesn't look like that will happen.
The next year or two are going to be very interesting in the progression of the Gillispie era, that's for sure. :widcat:

Not fair, too hard :icon_biggrin:
I'm not sure. I haven't seen much of Warren beyond that monster dunk, but from what I can tell, I think Warren is probably the more athletic and the better outside shooter, but Liggins is the better passer and more prepared to play point. Tough call. I really really really want Warren, but if Liggins really is versatile enough to play 1 and 3, both positions we need help at compared to the 2, I'd have to take Liggins.

Why dont you think we can land a stud center? We are in with 4 or 5 guys who I would consider studs. You know that a true 5 will look at our roster and unless Carter blows up this year they will see that they have significant playing time.

Fair enough!! Sure would be a nice problem to have. Before today I didnt think we had much of a chance with Liggins.

Not sure about 4 or 5, but we are in the hunt with two really good ones, Zeller and Woods. Reports are saying we are no longer in with Clark as of this weekend. I am presuming Matt was speaking of the 08 class.

Well, I thought that because, for some reason, I keep thinking that we only have two spots open next year (JC and Ramel). But I keep forgetting that there is a spot open now. I don't know what's wrong with me, geez :shrug1: Getting old I guess, at the ripe old age of twenty. :icon_biggrin:
At any rate, Zeller or Woods sound like a solution to that hole at the five spot. I'm not discounting Carter, and don't mean to sound like it, but still haven't seen him play yet. Who knows, might be great by now. He's gotten to practice a lot. And the reports make it sound like he's in good shape other than the shoulder.
Also, Rick, you mean Clark the center and not Rotnei Clarke, am I correct? Thanks guys for straightening me out. Lord knows I need it sometimes, especially with the the frenetic recruiting of Coach Gillispie

Would not only be great for this year but also for the long term. Kentucky hasn't been able to tap the Chicago area since the 90's and it needs to be able to go into that area and get talent.

Agree.
Miller is ideally a 3, while Warren is an athletic combo guard who can play PG. Liggins is multi-positional, 1-2-3. Personally, I would want to play Liggins at the 3 (as a pointforward) or 2 to take advantage of his interior passing skills.
In that video, Liggins reminds me a little style-wise of Oscar Robinson, who would always crowd in close, about as much as he could get away with, to about the point of contact and never took a wide open shot. I love his feel for the game.

In that event, I would find a way to take them both.

This would be a most pleasant problem to have after the last few years of recruiting misses and then more misses.

This kid looks great in this game. Seems to have a good head for what is going on on the floor and gets the ball to the right man.

You know, all I have done is PRAISE Coach Billy Gillispie. Now I say that the man is driving me CRAZY (or rather crazier)!!! :icon_lol: I'm joking, of course. :)
For us to be IN WITH all these top recruits I want is obviously a GREAT thing. Yet, seriously, it is "too hard" to decide, as DCWildcat just said. I had previously wanted Miller, Zeller, and Warren (and maybe Clarke, too :icon_lol:). YET, after reading about Liggins, yes, I want Liggins to be a Cat!
I love that Liggins loves to DEFEND AND ASSIST, as I just read on another thread, and that he can indeed play both the small forward and point positions. Also, if he wants to be a Cat NOW, how can we turn him down! Yes, I remember too well our holding out for some players, THINKING that they would become Cats, but it wouldn't happen (and we all especially remember Brandan Wright :icon_sad:).
I trust Coach Gillispie to make the right decision. I am honestly glad that I do NOT have to make such decisions. Yes, Coach Gillispie is making me giddy with happiness, but also a bit "crazy" as I read our recruiting forum. :icon_lol: GO CATS! GO BILLY G!
