Most of freshman class is on campus

Players are participating in voluntary workouts

By Chip Cosby

While the University of Kentucky doesn't release an official list of freshman football players who enroll for summer school, most of its 2007 class arrived on campus in June and have started voluntary workouts.
All of the scholarship players who competed for the Kentucky All-Stars in its 38-24 win over Tennessee last week --kicker Ryan Tydlacka and offensive linemen Billy Joe Murphy, Brad Durham, Stuart Hines and Phillip Hibbard --are in town. One of UK's top recruits, running back Brandon Jackson, is also on campus. As reported last month in the Herald-Leader, Kentucky's highest-rated recruit, LaGrange (Ga.) defensive lineman D.J. Stafford, did not qualify for freshman eligibility and will attend prep school.

Hines and Tydlacka are the most important to have on campus. Hines should see some significant time on the O-line this year, and Tydlacka is such a good punter and kicker, I see him starting at both positions.

I hope we don't have to play Hines. Playing a pure FR on the OL is not a good thing unless the guy winds up becoming all-conference by the next year. Otherwise, to me it's just a demonstration of how weak the current OL talent level is & I have high hopes that it's not. It also gets in the way of building for the future. Hines will likely be quite good, but not now please.

Well put, and so true.

After having a rough time getting RBs to campus, I am happy to see that Jackson is in town.

Moncell Allen is here/there as well. Chip didn't name all the kids that are with the team this summer.

I had heard that Moncell was on campus, but the report was that he was out of shape. Is that true? An overstatement? Blatant falsity?

I have not yet heard about Lanxter. Is he on campus?
