Chuck Smith has not forgotten his high school coaching roots. The University of Kentucky linebackers coach spoke Monday at the Kentucky Football Coaches Association clinic at Centre College and made it clear that he wants to stay in touch with the state's prep coaches.
"In order for Kentucky to continue to play at the bowl level, we have got to have the best Kentucky guys playing for us," said Smith, who won five straight state titles and went to six straight title games at Boyle County. "I hope we are making contact with you guys and who you have on your teams."
He noted that Kentucky had five marquee players - quarterback Andre Woodson, linebacker Wesley Woodyard, tight end Jacob Tamme, receiver Keenan Burton and running back Rafael Little - and that three (Woodson, Burton and Tamme) are Kentucky high school products.
"We need more like them. Coach (Rich) Brooks is committed to them. He wants to make sure we evaluate every Kentucky guy that can play in the SEC," Smith said. "I love Kentucky high school football. It has been my life. I want to see it be the best it can be....
