Late-night news

OK, so it's not a commitment but there is some late-night news about the Class of 2010 prospect I told you about earlier - Trae Golden. (FYI, I said 2009 by mistake in an earlier blog post but Golden is a 2010 prospect).

It seems that the 6-foot-2 Golden is "blowing up" in front of our eyes. Yes, in recruiting terms that mean his stock is rising - and fast.

Thanks to his high school coach Nick Chaykowsky for the phone call after Golden, his parents and his coach returned to Georgetown for some pick-up action. Golden had visited the campus over the weekend before the High Potential Blue Chip Camp and took time this evening to go back to Lexington and play pick-up with some of the current and former Wildcats.

Evidently, Golden fared quite well or at least the players reported back to the coaches with a favorable impression because the 15-year-old sophomore-to-be left with a scholarship offer and Chaykowsky said coach Billy Gillispie told Golden he could commit right then and there.

"Chaykowsky added another interesting tidbit about the recruitment of his player. It seems during the later part of the afternoon he received a phone call from University of Louisville assistant coach Richard Pitino inquiring about Golden. The Cardinals are now involved."

Head-to-head with the red birds. Bring it on!

U of L is getting a little more aggressive with their recruiting too, eh?

I think Louisville is doing just fine....they got the samuels kid and they've brought in highly touted kids ever since Rick became coach.....this rivalry is going to be strong for years to come and I love it. I want Louisville to be right up there with UK so the nation will see that Kentucky not North Carolina is the mecca for college basketball.

Sounds like the UL plan is to follow UK around and offer everybody that UK offers. :shrug1: :icon_lol:

The thought had gone through my mind, also. But always being behind in the recruiting process can't be a great strategy. Almost makes you think it is being done as much for appearances as for really hoping UofL will sign the prospect. After all, how would it look if UK were ahead in recruiting all the top prospects? By throwing an offer out every time UK does, it gives the impression that UofL is "in" on all the top recruits, also. Smoke and mirrors?

They better, I love it, Rick returns to the Bluegrass and thinks he is so big that he can be the "man" in the state, even in Louisville. Don't get me wrong, Rick gave us the greatest era in our history but hey Rick, Billy G. is the "man" in this state now!!

From the article: "I’m just going to come out and say it - I love that place,” Golden told the Georgetown News-Graphic about Lexington. “It has such a great atmosphere.” :icon_mrgreen:
