I just spoke with a recruiting source and an AAU coach close to the process and it looks as if news is about to break…..DeAndre Liggins either has or may be very close to announcing a commitment to the University of Kentucky. More as it comes………..
Marc Maggard has been on top of this from day one and will be on the Sports Mob at 5:30 to discuss more…..link below

great news....I hope its true, but with all the good fortune we've had with recruiting lately why would we think its not.

After seeing some vids of this guy, I really wanted him to be a CAT. Didn't think we could pull it off. What a turn around. Great get it if happens.
What is his current ranking?
top 20 or 25 overall I think.....great get

How does this impact Clark, Miller and/or Warren?

He committed per Matt Jones on SportsMob

I think its a who committs first situation....which is a nice place to be instead of the other way around like we have been. When you are asking whether we are going to have room for all these high profile recruits, then you know Billy is doing something right

Maybe with this comit, we go after Fortson as a PG and try and get Zeller to fill the hole in the Center.
It would be nice to pull off Clarke and Warren, but with this commit it'll be hard. Schollies are just not there. Maybe BCG can pull it off, I just don't see how.

This is a good and important question, and while I don't know the answer, my guess would be: it won't affect them too much. Billy G is a good salesman and I'm sure he can convince everybody that Liggins won't eat up time at just one position, and as a result that their playing time is not at huge risk.
This is a major, major get for us. Liggins is a real player with great potential. Billy G continues to leave me astounded.

Liggins is great at distributing the ball. Any shooter should salivate at the thought of playing with him. Plus he can hit his own shot if the other team drops off of him.

Yeah. I'm drooling thinking of some of the possibilities with him and our current players on the court.
Jasper (with 2 more years' development), Meeks, Liggins, Patterson, Stevenson/some other big man
Lavender said it correctly before: We're on the verge of Final Four type talent combining the classes of '06, '07, and hopefully '08.

Since Patterson and Legion committed, there has been an onslaught of talent considering Kentucky. I am amazed at the recruiting of Gillespie. I understood or thought I understood Gillespie's ability to recruit when he was hired, but I really did not expect this to happen.

Although Willie Warren (http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=42534) will not accompany Rotnei Clarke (http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=51436) on Clarke's visit to Kentucky this weekend, Warren did tell me on Thursday that Liggins' commitment has no affect on his recruitment by Kentucky.
That is good to hear, but UK will have 2, 3, or maybe 4 scholarships next year (yes, there could be a chance of more, but that type of speculation is impossible to support). So, Liggins' commitment does impact Warren's recruitment.
A class of Clarke, Liggins, Warren and a big man would arguably not meet UK's needs. Of course, Gillispie is the man to decide what UK needs.

Why would that not meet UK's needs?? What would be missing?

I believe CC mistyped.
I think he meant to say "without a big man."

That would make more sense. So, uh . . . yeah. What he said.

But, to be honest, I also think that we need two front court players in this class. With that opinion, I might be in the minority. But, we lose two perimeter players next year from a team that is perimeter heavy. Adding three more perimeter players does not seem wise, unless we can also add two frontcourt players.
In a class of four, I think Liggins and one other perimeter player should be teamed, ideally, with Zeller and Czyz.

I think Coach Gillispie continues to "ASTOUND" most all of us, DCWildcat. :) KUDOS to Coach Billy Clyde Gillispie. :)
