Evidently Liggins has committed to UK today. It is being reported by Matt Jones as well.

I just spoke with a recruiting source and an AAU coach close to the process and it looks as if news is about to break…..DeAndre Liggins either has or may be very close to announcing a commitment to the University of Kentucky. More as it comes………..UPDATE…. LIGGINS HAS COMMITTED

Working it like it hasn't been worked in years. See recruiting at Kentucky ain't hard after all only certain people made it hard.

Channel 27 also reported this a few minutes ago. This is a good pickup for Kentucky, with Liggins a possible McDonalds All American next year. It may hurt our chances of getting Darius Miller as both play the 3 spot, but I feel that while both players are capable of playing for Kentucky, and while you want to dominate in-state recruiting, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Liggins is ready to committ now and Miller is not. Maybe it can somehow work out where Miller can be a Cat too, but if not, you just don't pass on a player of Liggins ability if he wants to committ to you. (Unless you've already got another player to play the same position from the same class.)

Liggins is NOT ONLY a small forward. He is actually listed on Rivals as a point guard. He has the skill set to play the 1,2 AND 3. He is by far the most versatile of the UK targets and I am very excited about his commitment!

Liggins! Woo-hoo! Great news.

While I'd still like to land the Clarke/Warren combo, that may have to be scrapped to make room for some big men. For me, Zeller is at the top of that list.

And of course I'd still like to get Miller.

So let's see. Liggins, Clarke, Warren, Zeller, and Miller. Replacing Bradley and Crawford.

:icon_neutral: Am I being too greedy?

I have been a fan since 69 when I was a senior in high school. I don't remember it ever being quite this good on the recruiting front. One thing is for sure, he is leaving some big shoes to fill if he ever leaves us. :)

An absolute awesome pickup for the Cats. Liggins' versatility is what really excites me. Maybe he can bring the same type of game as another "point forward" from Chicago that we had a few years back.

This is a HUGE get, he's a top 20 player, probably a MCDAA...this doesn't hurt the Miller recruitment, it hurts the Clark (and perhaps Warren) recruitment but I"m fine with that...Liggins is a much better player than Clark and if we can get Miller (which I think we will) and pull out Jamichael Green it will be a top 5 class...SCARY GOOD...put these guys along with Patterson/Legion/Meeks/Jasper/Stevenson and you're talking championship calibur squad....Billie G keeps this up and they'll hang a banner with his name on it in Rupp before he even coaches a game....

What excites me is that looking at the Scout list linked there in the first post there are NO players on that list where KY isn't at least mentioned as a "school of interest." Billy G. casts a wide recruiting net which is vastly different than recruiting in year's past.

If I'm not mistaken, I think that was because it only listed Kentucky prospects. I did think it was great that most of them were rated so high.

Here is a link to the rankings for all (not just Kentucky) prospects.

Blue, you can add some names, I believe. Like Loserville, IU, Tenn, etc. If I coached those schools, I would be getting a little nervous.

What's important is we are beating big-boys and yes we are one too, for these recruits. For Liggins, we beat out KU and Memphis, for Leigon, it was UCLA, for Patterson it was Duke and Florida- this is huge, this why these teams have been on top lately- RECRUITING, and now we have a guy getting it done like it should be at UK.

I still can't believe he can come in so late on guys like Patterson/Legion/Liggins and get commitments over schools listed above- simply amazing!!

Absolutely agree.

Patterson in particular. Not only did we beat out his hometown schools in West Virginia, but also the monsters of Dook and Florida. This is after UNC, UConn, UC, Tennessee, and many others had made overtures and told them "no thanks." We beat out almost every elite school east of the Mississippi on him.

Legion, too, was being pursued hard by Kansas, UCLA, and UConn. Liggins chose us over Kansas and Memphis.

About the only elite school we haven't beaten out just between those three recruits is Ohio St.

Tubby laid the recruiting-groudwork for Patterson and we will probably never know if Tubby leaving made any difference, one way or the other. I'm now very glad we lost out on Lucas. I'll take Clarke, Liggins and Legion over him anyday.

Liggins ranks No. 18 in the Rivals.com top 150 and is No. 28 on the Scout.com rankings. He also plays for the Indiana Elite AAU program, on the same team as UK target Tyler Zeller of Washington High School.

Kid sure has a good look about him. What's his wing span? He doesn't look tentative in the least.

My biggest complaint with Tubby was the lack of killer instinct in most of his recruits.

Thanks -- very interesting. Shows he ain't a one trick, recruit-out-of-Texas-only pony. He's signed players from Texas, Michigan, West Virginia, Kentucky, and now Illinois. Impressive is too weak a word for what he has done.

There are some questions as to whether Liggins is a PG. And, there are PGs all over the country that play for top tier colleges that fit that bill.

If Zeller and Liggins do not mesh well, its not as if Liggins is his only hope of finding what you describe.
