Do you think Gillispie will give a scholarship to an '07 recruit, or do you think he'll hold it for the '08 class?

I still say he gives it if Washington becomes eligible. Gillispie seems to be the kind of guy who shoots first and asks questions later.

Coach just doesn't seem like a "hold the scholarship" kinda guy. Under the circumstances he was left with you cant blame him. He plans on trying to win now, not in two years. I dont blame him at all for still going after certain players.

I agree with Will and Rick. Coach wants to fill that scholarship this year, and if Washington is eligible he's going to get it. I've been a proponent of saving it for next year's haul, but what the hey. In BCG I trust.

Time to research those academic scholarship requirements...

I agree Jody. There have been a couple names linked with UK for 07 that I would have rather seen the scholly held onto, but I trust Coach to do whats best for the team.

Maybe with the addition of Liggins more of the 08 class will go ahead and verbal.

I think the the possibility that he holds onto it increases a little with the Liggins commitment (and it would be hard to see any scenario in which the schollies wouldn't be filled in 2008)...but that said, I still think he uses it in 2007. He's seemed intent on that for quite some time.

I think he uses it if he can get the right player to fill it. I don't think he'll use it just to be using it though. I have been completely satisfied with his recruiting so far, so I will continue to trust that he can get the job done.

At the dinner Monday night he said there may be one or two players they were looking at adding THIS year.

I agree with most on here that BCG will try to continue and add to this year's roster if the opportunity presents itself. I absolutely love the idea that he is trying to win RIGHT NOW! I feel comfortable that he knows what he is doing in relation to the amount of scholarships he will have. I am in agreement with one of Littlemeyer's post earlier: I want a class of Liggins, Clarke, Warren, Miller and Zeller (or Czyz). In BCG we trust!!!

Okay...I'll go against the grain in this thread and say hold on to the scholorship. It's a matter of getting the most out of each scholorship player. It seems like we have a player like the 07 recruit (washington right?) in Ramon Harris. A 6'6 athletic guy with a great body who played the post mainly that has a mid-range game and with the possibility of adding the outside game. Its the same reason why Pettigrew would have been a bad offer. We can get a proven wing in Warren or Miller and a more traditional post player with size like Zeller or we can have a roster filled with 6'6 guys that can play multiple positions. If Tubby was still coach I'd say get the best posible player avaliable because I'd be concerned about landing the big time recruit that we needed. (Mind you that this isn't a slam against Tubby just a fact that he had trouble landing the big time recruit that we needed at the time) But Billy Clyde has shown the ability to land the recruits. So if he wants another wing player then go after a proven wing like Warren and Miller with all we got, or if he wants a post player then go after a 6'8 or taller guy with ability like Zeller. I just have reservations about offering a guy that has a game similar to a guy we already have and probably won't be an imediate impact player this year.

I used to not agree but I'm starting to now. There are so many big-time 08's, why settle? I do think that Billy may think someone or some kids may transfer after this season- so who knows? At least we now have a coach who out-works all the other coaches and has the same passion the UK fans have.

I wonder how much of "we need to win now to keep this excitement level up" is entering into the equation?

I just don't see him holding onto it.

FWIW, I agree that Coach Gillispie wants to win NOW and that he will continue to try to add a player to THIS class. Coach Gillispie is an AGGRESSIVE recruiter (same as a non-"hold the scholarship" guy). I like his aggression. Most of all, I trust him to make the right decisions. GO CATS! GO BILLY G!
